Arrival Story:
When I started managing a kennel, I was introduced to Bacall, a 10-year-old (?) retired police dog. The story gets fuzzy at that point about what happened to her handler and how she ended up being warehoused in this kennel. I was told by the owners to never open her kennel because she would attack. She "proved" it by charging at the gate and barking fiercely. She was in a dimly lit isolation area and no one interacted with her. As I spent time around her, I thought that perhaps she was not actually aggressive, but merely charging the gate as her only form of entertainment. One day when she charged the gate I yelled "No" and "Down" in German and she stopped and lay down and just looked at me with that big ole smile on her face. I began to make friends with Bacall and when the owners were away, I would bring her out into the exercise yard. She got SO excited. The day I brought the sleeve out, it became clear that she had not forgotten anything about bite work. She turned out not to be people aggressive at all and after demonstrating that I could easily control her with German voice commands, I convinced the kennel owner to let me adopt her. We had 4 wonderful years together.

Bio:
At some point, someone filed down all of Bacall's canine teeth. That explains the goofy, toothy grin.
