Phew.... BUSY

Mum's been super busy so she didn't have the time to translate my woofs and barks to words that we could share with the humans. But she finally has a chance to sit down to help me share my last few weeks with all of my pup pals. Since the last time mum had written to share with you all my first home experiences, I have gained 4 lbs in 4 weeks and the Vet said last Friday that I was going to grow up to be a fine Heeler. A handful dad says to me when we play. I really don't like going to the Vet, though he's nice, the pointy thing that he has in his hand gives me the willies and I get shore between my shoulders for a couple of days after.

I've been with mom and dad for almost over a month now, and it feels like I've playing with them forever. I get to sleep on the bed with mom while dad plays on the computer and then when dad comes in he pets me till I fall asleep on my doggy bed. Mum gets a bit carried away at time always bringing me home new treats and toys when she goes out shopping. I think she's feeling guilty for leaving me at home. But that ok, cause Dad takes me out for rides in the truck all the time. Like today when we surprised mom by stopping by her office to take her pout to lunch, of course I got to meet mom's friends. They all loved me of course. I can't wait till March when I can finally go out further than the backyard and go for real walks with mom. Mom and Dad have been extra careful not to take me anyway that I can catch bad things from other puppies and dogs. Mom keeps telling me something about how I'll love the beach and this thing called the ocean. I'm curious about it now. Well off I go for now. I see a ducky that I need to have a word with.

Mum and Dad survived their first week.

Since Bella has paws and can't correctly hit the keys, I'll have to type for her, and interpret what she thinks and feels. Bella came to us a week ago, and coming from a background where I never had a pet, I must admit it was quite a feat to take on not only a puppy but a working dog none the less. The upside to this is that my fiance had a heeler before, and was well aware of what lay in store for us. Bella's handler before us had her house broken already. It was just up to us to reinforce the lessons learned. I do admit it was frustrating whenever she squatted in the house, especially the first night, but after frequently asking her "do you have to go Potty?" and walk to the patio door to let her out, she knows now to sit by the door and whine and look at us to be let out to do her business.

At first letting her outside into our backyard was a bit nerve wracking cause I was so afraid of her contracting parvo, there is no dog feces in my back yard but there neighborhood cats like to think of my yard as a personal bathroom. Bella unfortunately likes to explore the kitty feces and has liked it twice now to my dismay. I think Bella is adjusting well, we try to spend as much time with her as we possibly can and take her everywhere we can that allows us to tote a puppy. Friends' houses, retail stores, grocery and lots of car rides. Bella has her moments where she whines if she doesn't see us, even if we're just around the corner, and then she has moments where we don't even register and she's off on her own. The whole x-mas weekend Bella didn't want to cuddle or cit in our laps for too long for pets. Then this morning as I am spending time with her before I leave for work, she wants nothing more than to sit in my lap and have me pet her or lay in bed and have her lick my face clean. The one day that she shows affection to me is the day I can't stay home and bond with her. I think she knows its a work day and is trying to tempt me to stay home.

The immediate mini emergency right now is that she has a hard lump on the top/side of her nose. Its a hard lump that occurred after she came in from the back yard. It has shrunk a little but its still there and now I wonder if she has been stung or rubbed up against something or if its a abscess or cyst. I can't take her to our Vet till Wednesday. Hmmmm I wonder if its that urgent that I have to take her to the emergency clinic? It doesn't bother her, nor does it prohibit her from doing anything, she still has mass amounts of play energy and runs around pretending to be a race car. Which is amusing since we had tile on our house and she skids when she tries to stop or turn.

I just finished reading 'Marley & me' by John Grogan and I do admit the timing of reading that book and just taking in Bella makes me wonder what type of impression she'll leave on me and that we'll leave on her. What trouble, mischief, love, happiness, and joy will Bella bring? Marley was such a joyous dog, but so full of vigor and well quirks that it made being his owners pretty tough.

One last thing I want to add before logging off is...I want to get Bella pet insurance, just in case something happens and she needs emergency care, but I'm not sure if its worth it.
