Arrival Story:
My husband and I adopted Skyline through a great breeder who is Registered with the Canadian Kennel Club. We had to wait until Skyline was older before Skyline could come home. Throughout our wait we were given updates and wonderful pictures of Skyline as she grew up. And after what seemed like an extremely long wait we finally picked her up early morning on January 25th. It was a long drive, but worth it. And Skyline handled it like a pro. My son and daughter were so excited to see her and it was so amazing watching them play and her run around them like a goofball. An thats our story, we are incredibly happy she is here!

Switching Dog Foods from Grain-free to food with some- grains...

Well I never thought I would do this, but I had the best conversation ever with a dog behaviorist/ Groomer who owns a Grooming/ Training place. I went in originally looking for SPA Colors shampoo to see if I could find it in town. Well I came out with alot more than I bargained for.

We got into a conversation about Grain-Free foods. I told her all about my dogs coat issues and Skylines temperament issues (shes like an elastic band wound tight and guards her food and special treats occasionally, shes very tense) . So we started talking proteins in food after I told her I fed them Orijen, and she told me that there is a study by Dr.Dodman that proves that too much protein can cause aggression in dogs or make aggression worse (she said some dogs can handle high protein, some dogs can't).

She said she first heard this years ago. She also said she just got back from a seminar recently and they again discussed the negative affects of high protein (she also told me dogs can't even digest anything over 35% protein). She also told me three specific cases she dealt with (one being her own dog) that the aggression in the dogs on high protein diets (protein over 25%) was significantly reduced when they were put on a lower protein diet. She also told me that it was possibly the high protein causing the Red tear stains in Rickards, because when he was on lower protein with his past owner he had none.

It was alot of information to digest and I believe her 100%. But I'm going to test it out myself. She suggested a really good Canadian Brand Dog food called Happy Paws.

Happy Paws only has 22% Protein (not sure why it says 24% online, on the actual bag in the store its 22%), so 18% less protein than Orijen. She said I should see a difference in Personality in Skyline and coat in Rickards in about 3-4 weeks. So tomorrow I am picking up a bag (she said ANY low protein food under 25% would work, but I liked the ingredients in Happy Paws) and keeping a journal about how the lower protein affects them. I'm hoping she is right, I really do believe her.

Anyway, I'll let you all know how this goes :)

Had to re-schedule Groomers appointment

My Mom, Dad and my two human siblings all got sick with something called H1N1 Flu. My human sister is still fighting it off, but feeling much much better. Mom said she couldn't leave the house to take me to my appointment, because she said it would get other people sick if she did. But she rescheduled it now that she is feeling better to Nov 18th. I'll get my mom to post pictures when we get back from our appointment.

Going to the Groomers!

I'm so nervous, Skyline and Rickards are going to the groomers for the first time ever on November 4th at 10am. I groom them myself once every 3 days, but I decided its time to take them in to do some touch ups.

Skyline will be getting her nails clipped, light trim (just to clean up around her ears, feet and backend), and they are going to bath her with SPA Colors Black shampoo! I was so happy when the Groomer told me they had that shampoo. Its a good test to see how well it works before I get the one I'm buying online mailed to me! I also requested that they hand dry her instead of putting her in a cage dryer and the Groomer was 100% okay with that.

I'm so excited to see how Skyline will look all poofy and smelling good! :D
