A doggie wedding day such an oddity.
Being a long time pit bull advocate I wanted to come up with an idea to get some positive pit bull press as well as raise money for the animals at the shelter located in my hometown of West Warwick RI Can I do both? Impossible? NO, not at all!
I decided to hold a Dog Day Wedding!
I thought what a better way to show off my pit bull girl but to have her get married with a large crowd and a huge reception.
Who can my dog Ginger marry? What about the handsome young German shepherd that my family fostered last year named Harry??
Ginger really had a thing for him!!
Now, I was on to something!
So, after making a few phone calls, I had the wheels in motion!
So many great volunteers from the entire community helped out to make this day perfect.
Doggie Nuptials were held at the Cranston Country Club, Cranston, RI on Sunday May 29th 2005 at 2:30pm. The reverend Gail Singster was presiding.
The happy couple had a full wedding party including both canine and human species. The bride’s parents Harry and Susan Parker gave her away and the groom’s mom Trish Nelson gave him away. Wedding party attendants included:
Maid of honor: Mrs. Ann Corvin (from the Warwick Animal Shelter RI)
Best Man: Mr. Anthony Totilo (walking Oden the great Dane dog)
Ring Bearer: Anthony Rivard
Bride’s maids:
Miss Becky Parker (walking) Bailey the golden retriever/lab mix dog ( Becky is also the human sister of the bride)
Miss Katie Burton
Miss Mary-Lou Beaudry
Ms. Patricia Maxwell (From the Cranston Animal Shelter RI) (walking Mary the Chihuahua dog)
Usher: Mr. Joseph Gladding
Junior brides maids:
Miss Gianna Soprano & Miss Shyanna Clifford.
A beautiful wedding cake was donated as well as edible doggie centerpieces that were "gingerly" placed on the guest tables.
News channel 6 was on hand to tape the ceremony and Ginger said, "I do" ruff ruff style on cue!
A good time was had by all.
Although the DJ distastefully kept announcing that the dogs were “Now home doing it doggie style” they actually did not consummate their vows and each dog slept in their own bed on their wedding night.
