Likes:
To harass fur sister Kayla - he loves to grab her by the collar, the neck, or by her tail and drag her around. It's funny, but Kayla seems to tolerate it!

Pet-Peeves:
Being put in his crate!!

Favorite Toy:
Anything that Kayla is playing with.

Favorite Food:
Whatever Mama is eating.

Favorite Walk:
Outside, down the dirt road with Kayla and Mama

Best Tricks:
He learned how to High Five mama and we are now working on rolling over and coming when called off leash.

Arrival Story:
After Vegas died, the house was too quiet, so Kayla, Brisco's fur sister, and Mama decided to go adopt a new companion from the local Humane Society. It was love at first sight and Brisco came home with us two days later!! He now has a Fur-ever Home!!!

Bio:
While the Humane Society said Brisco is a Black Lab and German Shepherd mix, he really looks more like Black Lab/Bernese Mountain Dog.... or Beagle/Black & Tan Hound.... or Beagle/Rottweiler.... or Beagle/Black Lab.... He has big white feet and a cross of white on his chest. Guess it was just meant to be!!

My first snow!:
It snowed big time today! We got at least 10 inches and it was over my head. I loved chasing Kayla through the snow but had a hard time keeping up with my little legs. She liked running ahead and hiding in the tree line playing hide and seek with me. Just wait until I grow up - she will really be in trouble then!!!!

Now what am I??:
Brisco is now almost 5 months old and looking less and less like a Black and Tan or Bernese Mtn Dog, but more like a Black Lab or Rottweiler mix. And boy does he have a set of lungs on him! He definitely has a beagle howl and he sounds like Peter Brady singing on the Brady Bunch, with his howl cracking. Brisco is just hysterical to watch!!

Fat Boy is right!:
Well, Mama weighed Brisco this morning and her cute little bundle of lard weighed over 30 pounds. He just spilled fat rolls all over the scales! He is such a love bug - always wanting to lay in Mama's lap for a belly or back scratching.

Baby Harp Seal:
Brisco now knows how to give a high five, sit, lay down, come to his name, and come when called when he is outside. He loves to sit up on his hind legs and play boxer with Kayla. It is really funny to watch him try to give her a playful left hook, but the thing that makes Mama laugh the most is when he jumps down from the couch, he jumps with his front legs, then slithers down the seat, stretching out his back legs as if he was a seal slipping into the water.

Housebroken Already????:
Mama is SO proud of Brisco! He has not relieved himself in the house in a WEEK!! He lets Mama know he has to go out by trying to get her to follow him to the door - or if Mama is on the couch, jumping up and standing on her until she says, "Wanna go out?!" Mama can't believe that he is housebroken to puppy pads when she is gone and housebroken outside when she is home in only a month and half!! That's my smart Brisky boy!!!

Interior Decorator?:
I like to surprise my mom by redecorating the house when she leaves. I make confetti out of kleenex, toilet paper, magazines, hard cover books, or anything else I can find and place it all over the living room floor. I arrange her shoes, pieces of the Boston Fern, pillows, blankets, socks, and my toys and decorate over the confetti. I want to surprise Mama by showing her how happy I am to have her home. Unfortunately, Mama does not seem happy or appreciative about the interior decorating I do for her. She will come around sooner or later that I am only trying to help....

Slimer!!!:
Brisky Bee has a new nickname.... SLIMER! Those of you that can remember the Ghostbuster's cartoon know that they had a "pet" ghost named Slimer. Slimer was always getting into trouble and making messes. Brisco and Slimer must be related... Anyway, Brisco came in from playing with his sister Kayla and had a long, St. Bernard sized slobbery, slimy, doggy drool hanging from his mouth. Hence, the nickname "Slimer" - which he loves, by the way!!!!

Brisky Bulldozer:
It's June 13 and Brisco is now 54 pounds, 8 months old, and 2 pounds heavier than his Shepherd sister Kayla. He is still half her size, but a little, squatty, stocky, bulldozer! He still loves to drag her around by her collar, neck fur, or her tail and his favorite thing to do is steal her bone or toy while she is playing with it. She adores her little fur brother and tolerates his harassment longer than I would!!! Way to go Kayla!!!!

Hi, I am Brisco and I am adopted. Here is my story. My mama and fursister Kayla adopted me from the Michigan Capital Area Humane Society after the sudden death of their rescue pup Vegas on Thanksgiving day 2008. They needed a big personality to fill his shoes and luckily they found me!!! I came to Michigan through the Tennessee Rescue Wagon in November 2008.

I was crate phobic and had severe separation anxiety, even though I had my fursister Kayla to keep me company during the day. Mama was very patient and replaced many cell phone chargers, lamps, shoes, toilet brushes, rugs, socks, and stuffed toys.

But that's not the adoption story I want to tell you about. My real story started on March 8, 2010, when Mama let us in after begging to go out at 3:00 am. I returned home with a dislocated and fractured hip. Wish I could tell Mama what happened, but it was not a car incident as the doctors said my injury was not consistent with a car hit.

Mama rushed me to Michigan State University Emergency Vet Teaching Hospital and I had to stay three long days and endure two difficult and lengthy surgeries. The first surgery was to fix a left hip dislocation and fractured ball joint. The second surgery was to remove that ball joint after the hip continued to dislocate. They could not do a successful hip joint replacement.

It's 43 days later and I am healing and in physical therapy twice a week at MSU's Canine Rehabilitation Center where I have stretching sessions, water therapy, jacuzzi (woof!!!) and massages on my hip and lower back to ensure the muscles are healing properly. I am learning to walk (and hopefully run and jump!) normally without a hip joint. Mama did not have insurance on us furkids when my accident happened, but she sure does now!!

Many people told Mama just to "put me down" because she has spent over $6000 (and counting) of her savings on my care and recovery. They told her she was crazy to spend that kind of money on a mutt-pound dog and she could have gotten several purebreds for that amount of money. They told her I was only 18 months old and it was not like she has had me a long time and she would get over it. They asked her to think of all the things she could have spent that $6000 on.

Mama did think about all the things she could have spent the money on and do you know what it was? She told me she spent her money on PUPPY KISSES!! Mama tells me over and over that my puppy kisses are worth every penny!!

Mama also tells me she chose me as well as me choosing her that day in November at the Humane Society. She says I am her sweet "Little B" and there is no way she could not provide me with the best medical care to fix my hip.

I am very proud of my mama. She knows that animals are not throwaways - even if they become hurt and need specialized (and expensive) medical care. My mama would not trade me for the world and I am very, very thankful she was the one who adopted a scared, tired, anxious puppy from Tennessee on that very cold Michigan day in November.
