July 10th 2006

Just being with her family & snuggling on her pillows and blankets, snuggling with her sister and with her Mommy and Daddy. Lily also LOVES TV! When there is a dog on TV, she will run & jump up with her front paws & let out a little bark. It's TOO FUNNY!

When her sister bites her cheeks or tugs on her collar, when she thinks she's going for a car ride but it's just a false alarm. We have to lure her back out of the car with treats

Favorite Toy:
Her squeaky, rubber ball

Favorite Food:
Aside from her Iams dog food, Lily loves ice cubes, slim jims, cheese, cold-cuts, Thankgiving dinner, green beans, and anything on Mommy and Daddy's plate, hence the nickname Chubby Checker

Favorite Walk:
Anywhere! She is a walking machine. She will walk till she drops

Best Tricks:
Sit, stay, come, giving kisses, looking cute, and best of all, leaping onto her favorite spot on the couch which gives her the nickname "Leaping Lily"

Arrival Story:
After moving into our big house with the big fenced in yard, we decided to get our Boston, Nelly, a friend. After searching for homeless Boston Terriers in need of forever homes, we found Lily, a Boston/Pug (AKA Bugg) who was at a foster home in NH. After calling and emailing the Derry Humane Society, we finally received a phone call for our phone interview and to relay our veterinarian information. After they did our backround check and home visit they requested that we bring our dog, Nelly, up to see Lily at her foster home to see how they got along. We made the trip up there the next morning. As soon as we saw Lily, we were in love with her little black face, wigglely bum, curly tail, and beautiful brindle body, which looks like camoflauge! Most importantly though, our Nelly was even more in love with her. The two of them played and played and it was an instant connection. Lily's foster mother (who was also the director of the Derry Humane Society) told us that after receiving over 100 inquiries about Lily, she had narrowed it down to 2 families, us and another family. The other family was supposed to come that night to meet Lily. She advised us to go home, without Lily, and discuss it and to let her know if we were still interested in her. Although we already knew that we wanted to bring her into our family, we agreed to this even though we knew that there was another family coming to see Lily that evening. We reluctantly said good-bye to Lily, hoping that we would be "chosen" to be her forever home. After we were about 2 miles down the street, I received a phone call on my cell. It was from Lily's foster mom. She asked us if we wanted her. Of course, we said "yes"! She told us to turn around and come back to bring her home. She knew that Lily was a perfect match for our family and that we would be the best forever home for her. She also said she would explain to the other family that Lily just wasn't the dog for them and that their perfect dog is out there for them and they would find it. We brought her home that day and now we can't imagine our life without her! We call her our little diamond girl because she is our little diamond in the rough and we were so lucky to have found her!

Lily is a rescue dog. Every time we talk to her, she just looks at us with those big brown eyes and looks like she is understanding ever word we say. There is something about rescue dogs. Although nothing has ever been proven, Lily just seems to know that things weren't so great before and now they are. Lily has such an unconditional love. She appreciates every kiss, every snuggle, every treat, every pillow, every walk, every car ride, and the warm bed that she sleeps in with us everynight

Today was the best day! Mom was home ALL day with us! Mom, Nelly, and me snuggled on the couch all day and watched TV! Then, later when mom was upstairs folding laundry, she let me come up with her WITHOUT my sister! It was just mommy and me! It was so much fun to have my mommy all to myself!

Dear Diary,
Well, all I know is that Mom set up my page for me and now I'm supposed to write a diary. Here goes...I had a pretty lazy day lounging with Dad watching football. Dad is always shouting at the TV and rooting for a team called the Patriots. Not favorite team is the Steelers, just like Grandpa, so I was very happy when they won the game today! Dad, not so happy. I gave him a few kisses to cheer him up.

Mom was at work last night so she was napping all day. When she got up, she made a few phone calls and then she told us that we might be getting a foster brother! I can't wait! I have been waiting for so long for a big brother! Ever since Buster came for a visit, I have been dreaming of a big brother and now that dream is going to come true! I can't wait! Finally a boy to play with who's not going to try to tug on my collar or bite on my cheeks. I just hope that he can keep up with me when we go for our walks!

Well, Nelly and I are going night-night. We have been taking our "pre-bed naps" on the couch for a few hours and Mom is FINALLY going to bring us up to our bed. Bark at you later, diary!

Love, Lily
