Arrival Story:
My boyfriend had been wanting a dog or puppy since we first moved in together. At first, I was against the idea, since I'm in school and know the work required for a puppy. But after visiting some local shelters just to look, I was sold. I browsed Craigslist for a few weeks, and came across an ad for two oops puppies needing homes. I e-mailed the poster and once I saw Sheeba's adorable picture, I knew she was going to be ours. We picked her up that weekend and it's been love ever since!

Bio:
Sheeba's mother is a Shiba Inu, mixed with.. something we aren't sure of, but I'm thinking lab. Her father is a "Husky mix" but the general consensus from everyone she meets is that she's an Aussie mix. And since we didn't see the father I am convinced more and more she might not have any Husky at all! She was the biggest of a litter of three and already as big as her mom when we picked her up.

boot camp

Mommy tells me I am in need of doggy boot camp. You see my mommy was lazy over the winter time and didn't give me all the walks I needed. Before winter I was doing sooooo well on my walks when I saw other people and dogs. I was even meeting other dogs on leash and being very sociable. Then winter came and I didn't get to see as many people and dogs. Once it started to get warm and we were taking more walks, it was obvious I had changed my mind about being friendly to other people and doggies.

But you can't completely blame me. One day a couple of months ago I was walking with mommy and daddy around the apartment complex. We were walking along a fence and before I knew it there was a dog on the other side of the fence and we started sniffing. Mommy said she would have pulled me back, but I've never had fence aggression before-- apparently that doesn't mean the other dog won't!!! We started barking at each other and mommy started to calmly pull me away. Well the dog had other ideas and came through a hole in the fence and attacked me. We spun around and around and around barking and snarling!! Mommy was so scared. I'm not sure if the other doggy wanted to hurt me, but I did a good job of defending myself, because I didn't want to hurt the other dog, just get it away from me!!! Finally we got pulled away from each other. There wasn't any blood. We were both really tired. Mommy and daddy took me inside and mommy started to cry about it. I know she worked really hard on getting me to tolerate being around other dogs without reacting. But I just can't help it. I don't like big dogs anymore. I get very defensive when a big dog just LOOKS at me, even at the dog park. I used to be so good at the dog park. I loved it. I'm not so sure I do anymore. I'm sorry Mommy.

So she decided I need lots and lots of mini training sessions outside. I don't go outside unless mommy has treats with her. I can't say I hate it because mommy starts shoving food in my mouth even if I just hear a collar jingle, or a car door slam, or voices talking. Instead of her running inside right away with me so I don't get all worked up, we stay outside, but very far away from whatever it is I would normally bark at. She says I have to re-learn that other people and doggies means I get lots of food so I don't freak out as easily. Not to mention when we go on long walks mommy brings a frozen peanut butter Kong with her!!! I love peanut butter. Pretty soon I will see a doggy, and look at mommy right away for that peanut butter.

Okay everypup, I'm a little confused here. Mommy keeps talking about how excited she is to go to Manners 'n' More dog training school tonight, but I wasn't aware she registered me for a new class there???? And why does she keep talking about little puppies??? We already did OUR puppy class, and Novice too. I heard her talking to daddy about it, and she said something about bringing me to hang out in a crate to watch the other puppies. What in dog's name is she going on about??? Why would I go just to hang out and not learn anything??? I sure would like to see Amanda again (she taught both my classes, and I really like her, even though I was a little wary to let her actually pet me when we took my CGC test). I am so confused, why is mommy excited to help teach other puppies?? I can do SO much more than they can.

It's going to be a sad day

Well everypup, mom and dad knew this day was coming, but I sure didn't want to think about it! Bruce's mom (my grandmom) has decided she misses Bruce way too much not to have him at her apartment anymore. So this means he won't be coming home with us when we leave this weekend :( I'm not so sure he is going to like not coming with us. He only got to be with us for a month, but he loved playing with me all day, and getting played with, and getting all kinds of attention. Mom and dad got really used to having two dogs, and now they're sad because I'm going to be sad without a playmate to keep me company all the time. I don't think it will be too bad right now, but once mommy goes back to school for her final semester, it will be awfully lonely. :(
