Doggie Dynamics:
not playfulvery playful

Sun Sign:
Quick Bio:
-mutt-pound dog-dog rescue

December 27th 2007

Snow, playing fetch, long walks, things that fly, family snuggle time, my squeaky ball, ooh....i love that squeaky ball...

Baths, bugs that jump in my mouth, long car trips (I get a little carsick), being left alone (although it's not as bad now that I know how to get out of my crate)

Favorite Toy:
Fluffy - my blue sheep that "baas" when I squeeze him, "Squeaks" - a squeaky jeep steering wheel and that squeaky ball I mentioned earlier

Favorite Food:
I love ice cream, apples, carrots, ice, really anything my mamas give me. Oh, and tuna noodle casserole, I once knocked an entire pot down off the stove (I'd never done that before or since!) just to get some!

Favorite Walk:
I love to walk just about anywhere, I really like it when I get to go to my friend Bailey's house or to the church field to play or to the park to chase things or to the other church to run there or by the high school to see the kids

Best Tricks:
Doggy push-ups and the army crawl. I try to keep in shape for the ladies.

Arrival Story:
We adopted Xander from the Capital Area Humane Society in Lansing. We had paced up and down the corridor but kept coming back to Xander (then Diego). While the other dogs went crazy whenever another dog walked by, Xander sat in the cage calmly just looking around. When we took him into the "Getting to Know You" room, he was playful and a big mush. We knew we had found our perfect dog.

Xander was born in the shelter and was first adopted out at two months old. He was bounced from that first family to a second family who later returned him. Our family adopted Xander when he was just shy of eight months old.

Forums Motto:
My pack is my life.

Who I'd like to meet::
I'd really like to meet some other dogs with two mommies or daddies (especially if you're in the Lansing area).

Mamas are VERY VERY proud of me and all manners of happy tonight. Mama and I went to our training class tonight and there was a whole lot going on. The other four dogs and I had to take turns doing all sorts of stuff. I was sort of prepared since Mama had been telling everyone we met on a walk that I had some sort of test coming up. I wasn't crazy about having my paws touched by someone other than Mama, but I put up with it so long as Mama told me to "be good" and "settle." I was just following directions, but you should have seen my Mama when our turn was done. She was carrying on, telling me I was a good dog, I was the best dog, and then she'd stuff me full of liver treats when we got back to our seat. Hehehe...I have her trained so well. She and I walk together and she gives me a treat. I sit and she gives me a treat. I lie down and she gives me a treat. It's awesome.

The best part of the class though was at the end. After we'd all passed the test, my friends and I all got to run around like crazy dogs. The trainer let her dogs out too. I looooove the trainer's Tervuren, Raven. I think she's super pretty but she made me a little nervous and I peed on the floor. It was ok though, because Raven still let me chase her around and play with her. My friend Mars was there too. He's a Bernese Mountain Dog and I love crashing into him. He pulls my tail sometimes but I don't mind.

When we got home, Mama told Mommy about my accomplishments and Mommy was really excited too. Now they're both talking about "bragging rights at Christmas" and how I'm the most accomplished dog in the family. Mama is also talking about getting a new tag for my collar. I hope she gets one of the shiny ones. I like shiny things.

Mamas and I went out today. I was all excited because when the car stopped we were at the toy store! But then we walked right by the bones and the toys and over to the side of the store where there were NO TOYS and NO BONES! It was then that I looked up and saw them all....

There were crates and kennels and all sorts of cages that did not look like any fun at all. But Mama took each one down and let me go in and sniff around. These bedtimes were different than my last one. My last bedtime was a hand me down and was all metal. I bent that one and got out no problem (see my earlier post). The first one was too small and it smelled funny.

The next one was a little bigger and was vented. It was great. It was nice and dark and I could turn around and I didn't even bump my head (Mamas call me the tallest dog ever). I liked the third one too, but my mamas said that it was too flimsy and that I'd chew through it. So we got the second one I tried.

Then I got treats from two different people before I left! Mamas were really proud of me too because I sat nicely and didn't even mouth people when they pet me. When we got home Mama got my blankets and pillow for "new bedtime" and Mommy put some treats in there. Now generally I'm not that crazy about bedtime, but this bedtime isn't that bad. It's nice and cozy and I get lots of good things in there. Mama even gave me a new Squeaks.*

All in all, it was a pretty good day. I'll let you all know how it goes tonight.

*Note from Mama: Squeaks is one of Xander's Jeep brand squeaky steering wheels - they're his favorite toy

No cage can hold me!

Mama and Mommy have taken to calling me Houdini. I'm not sure what that means or who that is, but I think it has something to do with my recent death defying escapes from bedtime.

I'm not that crazy about bedtime. I mean, it's ok when my pack is all together and we're settling in for the night, but I really don't like being left alone all cooped up like that. I just think it would be much easier if my mamas took me with them...everywhere.

When mamas do leave me alone, I have time to think and plan. So, in my solitude one day I discovered that by nosing the crate locks I could slide them over and the door would open up. Once I'm free I usually just go to my pillow or down to the basement to sleep on the futon. I find that's much nicer than any silly old cage.

The other day though I got stuck. The plastic under my crate started coming up through the bars and that totally stressed me out. So I pulled it all the way through the crate and managed to bend the corners of my crate! Haha! No more bedtime for me! No sir! It was an accident, but I realized when mamas came home that they were putting bedtime away in the garage! I got to sleep on my blankets last night and that was it!

This morning I felt a little sick and Mama said it was because of all the plastic I ate yesterday. I heard Mama and Mommy talking about buying a new bedtime for me, but I'm hoping that it'll snow a lot again today and they'll be stuck in the house tonight. No worries even if they do try to get me another bedtime. I know that I can get out!
