Arrival Story: Sheba is a Wirehaired Dachshund who was rescued Easter Sunday in 1996. She was approximately six weeks old when she came to live with us. We estimated Sheba's barkday to be 2/28/96. Sheba crossed Rainbow Bridge on March 11, 2009. She had liver cancer. Spike is a Miniature Schnauzer who was a 1999 Christmas present. He came from Texas. Spike's barkday is 10/10/1999. Spike was diagnosed with sarcoma on 8/14/2009 and is currently on supplements and meds. It's in his chest and surgery was not recommended; too close to the heart & lungs. Spike lost his courageous battle to cancer on 10/12/2009; two days after his 10th barkday. Miracle is a Miniature Schnauzer we rescued February 27, 2008. She crossed Rainbow Bridge on August 19, 2008. She had AIHA. Bella & Scooter are Miniature Schnauzers we rescued October 14, 2008. Bella's barkday is 1/20/2007 and Scooter's barkday is 2/22/2007. Peppy and Cricket are Chihuahuas; Cricket crossed Rainbow Bridge on 9/20/1997 and Peppy crossed on 2/19/2001.
Bio: Miracle was diagnosed with AIHA on August 13, 2008 and it quickly took her away from us. It stands for Auto Immune Hemolytic Anemia. It is a serious and often fatal blood disease in which the body attacks its own red blood cells. Pawlease consider donating just a dollar to help find a cure for this horrific disease. To do so just visit another fur who lost her life to AIHA long before we knew what it was. Her name is Mica and she is helping find a cure: mica-the wonderpup. Do it for Miracle if you can! We love her and miss her so much.
I am so SAD to report Sheba crossed Rainbow Bridge on March 11, 2009 after fighting a very bad infection. We're not sure if it's from the toy she ingested on March 3rd or something else, but the hurt is very deep. She was our baby girl for thirteen years. She slept right next to me on the bed every night. I love her and miss her so much
Forums Motto: Happy St. Patrick's Day
We cannot believe today is Sheba's eight month anniversary at the Rainbow Bridge and tomorrow will be Spike's first month anniversary there. Mom's trying to get her journals & scrapbooks in order before she forgets those special times with Sheba & Spike. They was her constant companions for thirteen and ten years and left a big void in this house. Mom misses them so much....there's a stillness in the house without Sheba's demanding barks and Spike's comical antics...not to mention their special pawsonalities and so much more. Mom expects to see them coming through the doggie door any minute now...maybe they'll come to visit tonight.
Here's a special poem mom read today..it's called "A Dog for Jesus," and was written by Rudyard Kipling.
A Dog for Jesus (where dogs go when they die)
I wish someone had given Jesus a dog.
As loyal and loving as mine.
To sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyes
And adore Him for being divine.
As our Lord grew to manhood His faithful dog,
Would have followed Him all through the day.
While He preached to the crowds and made the sick well
And knelt in the garden to pray.
It is sad to remember that Christ went away.
To face death alone and apart.
With no tender dog following close behind,
To comfort its Master's Heart.
And when Jesus rose on that Easter morn,
How happy He would have been,
As His dog kissed His hand and barked it's delight,
For The One who died for all men.
Well, the Lord has a dog now, I just sent Him mine,
The old pal so dear to me.
And I smile through my tears on this first day alone,
Knowing they're in eternity.
Day after day, the whole day through,
Wherever my road inclined,
Four feet said, "Wait, I'm coming with you!"
And trotted along behind.
We've been reading our good furiend Izzy's diary for the past few days. She's been sick with the vomiting and getting weak. We've all got our paws crossed that it is just an upset tummy. Here's hoping all our furiends say extra pawrayers for Izzy that all her tests show she is the picture of excellent health as she visits her dogtor tomorrow.
We also got Izzy's whole fambly in our pawrayers cuz we know how stressful and frightening it is when a fur gets sick. God Bless Izzy, Ernie G., and their pawrents Mel and Ezra.
Mom finally got around to starting a special candle for Spike. We wish all of Spike's furiends will Light a Candle for him here. Click on "Dedicate to Topic" directly under mom's name (Ramona, Lafayette, LA) to light a personal candle in his memory. Once posted everyone can view all the candles lit.
