Arrival Story:
SPOONER. Back in September a sweet boy with a broken leg in a Wisconsin shelter needed our help. He was found as a stray and thought to have been hit by a car. He was caravanned to IDR in desperate need of surgery and lots of TLC. After he had surgery to realign the bones in his leg, he arrived at my house to recuperate. Hmmm, what do we name an adorable boy from Spooner WI? Isn't it obvious; Spooner! Well, 8 weeks and several casts later, Spooner is good to go! He goes running all over the yard, goes up and down the stairs, goes chasing after a ball, goes to greet his favorite people (that would be everyone), and has never gone in the house (if you know what I mean)! Spooner is young (maybe a year) so there are lots of training opportunities for us. He has learned to repeat behaviors that bring rewards; sit is his favorite. That is always good for a cookie! Spooner is a happy guy and sometimes he can get a bit excited and silly but he is quiet and well behaved most of the time. He has been a real pleasure to have in our house. His leg will never be 100% but the bone is healed and the muscles will strengthen in time. His leg doesn't slow him down a bit though. He is just a normal dog who needs someone who cares enough to share their life with him. He is good with other dogs but might be best to be placed with a dog who doesn't want to play with him. It would be great for him to have a few more months of healing time, not to say he wouldn't like a friend in the future. Spooner really is doing great and is ready for his forever home!
