Arrival Story:
We got our girl in February of 1995 from a Rat Terrier breeder in Louisiana. She's been with us ever since and has survived: illness, having a blood vain pop in her ear, severe arthritis, ingesting a large amount of chocolate, ingesting rat poison, and a 15 hour move from Mississippi to Kansas. I really, truly, honestly cannot imagine life without Pepper by my side. She's the dog that I grew up with and is my best friend. Whenever I'm sick or crying, she comes and leans up next to me, almost as if she's protecting me. Even though she's 13, she also LOVES going on walks with me. She doesn't have too many years left, and that saddens me. I'm not looking forward to the day when we'll have to say goodbye to her :(

A Pepper's Life

human emotions and sickness

I hate it when my humans don't feel well. Really.

When my big sister Liz was sick earlier this week, her fever spiked and she kind of "passed out" on the couch. There was nobody else with her, so I decided to jump up on the couch and protect her. They don't mind if I hop on the couch and Liz sure appreciated my company!

I can also smell when my humans are upset. If Liz is crying I will put my head under her hand. She'll stop me if I start licking her hand, which I don't understand why but I guess I'll never fully understand humans. She'll then let me hop up wherever she's at and snuggle with her. I do the same thing with everyone else in my family.

I wonder how much longer I have left. I'm an old girl and I can feel it in my bones. Oh well, I still pledge to help everyone in my family until I can't physically do so anymore!

woof.

I'm new to this whole dogster business.

My big sissy Liz blogs all the time. But I'm a dog. What in the heck do I know about blogging, or even computers for that matter?

I don't know what to write.

I'm an old woman, 13 years old in human years. I still have the heart of a young puppy. I have arthritis problems and a long history of dealing with doggy anxiety. Regardless, my sister takes me on walks. My brother takes me in the mornings, and Liz takes me in the afternoons. But there's something special about when my sister does it. Every time she grabs my leash I run around in circles from pure excitement. Oh, the sights and the smells I encounter when I'm in the "real world"!

I'm very faithful to those that claim themselves as my humans. If I feel that my human is in danger, I will go into harm's way to protect!

That's all I've got for now. Bark ya later, chums.

Love,
Pepper
