Hey, guess what? Did you guess???? Huh? Huh?? Can I tell you??? Ohhhhh, I'm not supposed to tell, but I can hardly stop the tail wagging. It's killing me, I gotta tell! I'm gonna fall off the chair with all this wagging!
Okay, see, Mommy pulled me aside and she said she had a secret and I couldn't tell anybody. Of course I won't tell, Mom, I'm a dog. Woof! So what is iiiiiiiiit ?!?!?!? And she said "you're going to get a new brother, a baby brother." OOOOOH MAN! oops - OOOOOOOH DOGGIE! Hot doggie - is it a hot doggie, Mommy, huh, huh?
She said she did better than get a hot doggie - she's getting me a baby brother JUST LIKE ME! Yep, another happy, jumpy, circle-y (is that a word?), skiddy-y, run all over you PUPPY JUST LIKE ME! I am so WOOOFFFING THIS. Where's my bone? I need my bone while I try and calm down from this excitment. :-)
Then she tells me all about my new baby brother. His name is Schroeder. He's already one of my puppy pals here on the board. WOW MOM! You did great!! I LOVE YOU SOOOOOO MUCH! THANKS! Doesn't he sound great? I think he can help me chase the squirrels and the birds out of the bushes! And he can help me drag Mommy and Daddy down to the creek! And we can DO SOOOO MUCH TOGETHER! I can hardly wait.
Schroeder is coming from Georgia on Saturday and I get to see him Saturday night. I think Daddy wants me to stay upstairs for a little bit while he stays with me and Mommy will stay downstairs with Schroeder while he gets to check out all the smells for the new house. I don't know if I'll be able to wait that long to meet him. I'm so excited I could tinkle (and probably will!).
So, now you know. Don't tell nobody else, okay? When Schroeder gets here, me and Mommy and Daddy are going to do EVERYTHING we can to make him happy here and not miss his first family too awful much.
Okay, gotta get back to my bone while I fret over the long wait until MY BABY BROTHER GETS HERE! lol

Today was a turning point in Sydney and Smokey's lives. If you've read about the addition of Smokey the cat on catster.com, you already know what happened. If you haven't, here is tale of a family uniting. :-)
I was having a late morning, still lying in bed. I turned over and that caused Smokey the cat to be peeved that his sleep was disturbed. He walked up to Sydney, who was also sleeping with us, and sat by her head. Sydney couldn't resist (this cat won't let Sydney touch him) and reached out. Noses touched, once, twice, three times. No claws came out! Sydney decided to take a giant leap for dogdom and licked Smokey's face and ears. She came out completely unscathed and Smokey, although tolerant, felt enough was enough and went to the window sill for some sunbathing. I was ecstatic. God, what I wouldn't have given for a camera at that moment!
As a reward for Sydney patiently and persistently over the past 3 months trying to become friends with Smokey, we took her to the dog park. We were there for almost two hours and she had a great time. Of course, being the catahoula that she is, mommy and daddy were "safety" about half the time, but she would go play, run, mock fight, chase and hassle anyone (dog) who came within 10 feet. It was like she had to be invited to "come out and play" and if they left the immediate vicinity, back to mom and dad she came until someone else came up and invited her to have fun. She's definitely a "one family" sort of dog. All else is only a diversion. :-) She wouldn't even take treats from any of the other dog owners. Oh, that reminds me - when she was a puppy, we took her to a pet store where they had a training session going on. They said she was too anti-social because she wouldn't take treats from other people. I think she's smart. At least I know she can't be tricked into going up to a stranger and being kidnapped or worse - poisoned! Maybe I'm wrong, but that "being sociable" part sounded like asking for trouble! She does let strangers pet her but only after she's seen if we are friendly with the strangers. Even then, they have to be talking to us for a good while first. Kids are a different story - THEY ARE HER BABIES! lol She would have been a good mother......but pound puppies can't leave the facilities until they are spayed. I'd love to have about 2 or 3 more just like her! She's the best babysitter a grandmother could have. Love her to death. :-)
