Arrival Story:
Our beloved Border Collie/Spitz mix, Georgie, passed away in July of 2008. Georgie was a very young pup when we adopted him from a local shelter, and he was a part of our lives for 14 years. We miss him very much. While there can be no replacement for Georgie, we knew that we could provide an immediate good and loving home for a dog waiting for one. My husband and I did separate searches on Petfinder and (very karma-like) the same dog (Skipper) was at the top of both interest lists. Skipper was in an Ohio county shelter approx. 3 hours away -- with an URGENT tag on her shelter adoption bio. Adopting any new family member was going to require input and acceptance from our 10 year old Border Collie, Jackson. We all met Skipper (renamed Clementine) and made the decision to adopt on the spot. Clemmie joined our family September 2008, and she came with some surprises.

Bio:
When we spent time with Clemmie at the shelter, we thought she seemed to favor her right leg a bit. Due to her calm and mature behavior, the shelter guessed her age at about 2 years and advised that she had not been spayed (she is) and was not housebroken (she is). After a trip to the groomer and vet, it was determined that she had a pin in her leg as the result of a broken leg. X-rays supported that her leg was completely healed and the pin could be removed. In addition, she wasn't close to 2 years old, but only 8 or 9 months. Our vet removed the pin and also rescanned her for a microchip, as we were all convinced (and it was outwardly apparent) that her previous guardian had cared for her greatly with training and medical care. Somehow (possibly wandered off and got lost?) she ended up in a shelter waiting for a new forever home. She found one.
