Leave a bone for Beautiful Joe (BJ)

Nicknames: B-Joes

Quick Bio:
Likes: he enjoys his walks most of all, he also LOVES muddy puddles! He enjoys being around children and other dogs too

Pet-Peeves: nail trimming, bath time, and brushing

Favorite Toy: All of his nylabones (he has MANY), and his stuffed kitty

Favorite Food: chicken, hot dogs, peanut butter, and yogurt

Favorite Walk: to the dog park, and in the woods

Best Tricks: He does a fantastic down stay, and is currently learning to fetch. He is also quite good at scaring ALL birds and critters from our yard.

Arrival Story: BJ was a given up to a shelter when his owner abandoned him and left the country. When his time was up the volunteers at this shelter had fallen in love with his sweet personality and loving disposition. They located a No-Kill shelter and begged them to take him in. They had no room for him and stated as much to the folks at the shelter. After much begging they squeezed him in and thus saved his life.
Myself and my family were fortunate enough to see him when browsing on the computer looking at doggies needing homes. We went to meet him in person and we too were in love. After completing the adoption process he came home with us within 2 weeks of meeting him. We are blessed to have him in our lives.

Bio: Before we adopted BJ we were told he was a Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix. After bringing him home the fine folks at the rescue informed us that he is actually a very rare breed of dog. He is a purebred Leonberger. They wanted his new family to want him because of who he is NOT what he is. We thought we had a gem when we were told he is a mix, and were surprised to here that he is even more special than we had thought.

Yesterday was quite a day for me. I always look longingly out the front door through the screen, which is my most favorite place to sit. Passing dogs and their people are great entertainment, and we see MANY where I live! Sometimes I stand up on my back legs to show these other guys just how big I am. Well guess what! This time my paw knocked the latch and the door opened!! Yippee! I was out in a flash with Mommy hot on my tail. Being the good boy that I am , instead of running towards the street I went into my neighbors back yard. You see, they have a BIG doggie friend of mine there named Elwood. He, like me, has many toys. I decided to go up on his porch and pick up what I thought was his toy monkey and do zoomies around there back yard with it clenched between my teeth. Only later did I find out that it wasn't HIS toy, but his human Ian's toy.
Anyway, the most fun part of this was that I involved my Mommy in what she called an unwanted game of chase. It was fun for me though! Then my Mommy stopped the game and was squating down looking at the ground like she found something really neat. I came to have a look and Mommy got my collar and took me home. She said that I had her worried, but I don't know why. I didn't want to go anywhere, I just wanted to play!
Now when my Mommy leaves the front door open she latches the lock on the screen so that even when I stand up on my back legs and knock the latch it doesn't open. Oh well, I get to go out the front door all the time. Only now I am on my leash, and my Mommy tells me that this is for my safety!
