My husband Matt has an office next to a archeoligist, Cheryl, who has the most wonderful Lab, Milagros de los Ceros a.k.a. Mila. For over two years Matt and I enjoyed playing with Mila and getting to know her. Last spring, Cheryl announced that Mila was going to have puppies - Matt and I were first in line. Luckily for us, Cheryl knew that we didn't have much money (we were graduate students), and kindly offered us a puppy of our choice for free. She said she just knew we would be great puppy parents. Once the puppies were born we drove nearly 30 minutes each way every Saturday morning to visit the puppies. My husband and I couldn't decide between two puppies, and while I was in the other room painting collars (to help distinguish puppies) Matt walked up holding a little tiny puppy that neither of us had even thought about before. Matt said the little pup walked up to him and sat down, almost as if she was saying "pick me"! And we did pick her! She is growing up to be the spitting image of her mother in physical appearance and personality.
