Arrival Story:
Well we pick him up on Saturday Nov 8 2006. My husband has always wanted a doberman. He is full blooded red doberman. We were out and about my husband and I when our best friend called and asked us if we wanted to go to the local animal shelter. Of course we said yes. We met her there and she was already inside. We go to the computer where they have a database of the anmals there. My husband saw the dobie and wanted them to bring it out so we could take a look at it. Well the site said that he was one year old. As we were visiting with him outside we talked about the tlc that we would have to give him. The police picked him up from the owner. They were neglecting him..very bad. We decided to take him. So we got him and went straight to Petsmart to get some stuff. The vet was open for walk-ins so we signed up. The paperwork from the animal shelter had that he was 2yrs old. But when we saw the vet she said he was a senior. He doesnt have many teeth and the ones that he does have are broken off or cracked. He weighed 65lbs but was severely underweight. Dehydrated, has worms, infection, lesions, and growths. He is a very sweet dog. Our only problem is paying for all the care he is going to need. The vet neds to biopsy the growth on his side. He needs heartworm treatment. He is on pain meds and antibiotics. We go back to the vets on Thurs the 13th to see how his progress is. His paws and ankles are swollen. He has kennel cough. We have to keep him seperated from our other dogs which is very hard. We are desperately searching for someone that has a giant size kennel for him. The largest we have is large so we let him go in there to sleep but le himoutside on the back porch during the day. We have had to soak himin epsom salt water and bath him in anti-bacterial wash. It will break my heart if this dog will not make it. I am a sucker for dogs. I cry everytime I have to leave or even go to the animal shelter. I know that they are all basically on doggie death row. We have no saved three from there including Red. We live in a military town with about 4 bases within a 50 mile radius (approxiamtely) so I notice that people will get these animals and the have to move and then get rid of them. Which is sooo sad. A friend of mine currently got a bull mastiff from someone and knew that she was moving in a month because her husband was deploying. Well sad to report that when they moved yesterday they got rid of it. I hate that crap. If people know that they either cannot take them with them or know that when they move they are not going to be able to keep them then why get them..like single men and women that deploy and then have no where for the dog or animal to go so they get rid of it. Well this ended up being more than the story about Red ... My husband thought it was meant to be that Red came into the shelter on his birthday which was the 6th of Nov...that was another reason why he wanted him so bad. But he spends as much time with him as he can. He is a US Marine so any time that he has off is good.

If anyone knows someone that would be willing to help us with anything where Red is concerned please contact me. Gift cards for food at petsmart or even the banfield vet inside petsmart would be extremely helpful. I am disabled and cannot work so we are living on a marines salary. So please ...if anyone could help us just contact me at amyminvegas@yahoo.com. I dont want to leave me phone number or address on here like this. Any advice or suggestions would be nice too. Say a prayer for Red!!
