Catching treats in mid air. Floppy has started what we call the Floppy Roll, we will tell her dog lot and she will lay down and roll over on her back like she has been shot. She can be in a full run and stop drop and roll when she hears dog lot.

Arrival Story:
Floppy was given to a family member and when he moved we got her and that was the best day ever. Floppy is a wonderful dog even though she is stubborn and mule headed. She has to be the most active basset hound I have ever seen. I love my hound and would love to make her a house dog, but my boyfriend wont let me.

Bio:
Floppy is smart and can do a few tricks (when she wants too). She can fetch, she can catch treats in mid air, and she can amuse herself when she wants to make us feel guilty for doing something other than playing with her.

Floppy's day

Floppy is 11 yrs old and going strong

Well my Floppy girl was 11 back in February and she still acts like she is five. She is getting gray in the face but that just adds character to her funny ways. She is always loving and I hope to have her many years to come. Miss Floppy still loves her kibbles and bits and just about any treat I give her.

I love my hound girl she makes bad days better. It breaks my heart when I read things on basset hounds and they say the life span is 12 yrs. I hope my baby breaks any record and becomes the oldest basset hound.

Floppy spends a lot of her day sleeping on the back porch she likes to stay close to the house. When she is awake she likes to pick on Gizmo and Wirehead aka Sam. She gets into at least one royal rumble a day sometimes sounds like they are tearing down the back of the house.

Floppy is my baby girl and I have owned dogs in the past but I have never loved a dog as much as I do my hound girl. I had surgery back in 2011 and she sat by my side many of the days keeping me company. Floppy is like one of my children.

Today Floppy lounged around on the back deck. She enjoyes the larger dog lot. She went from a 30 x 30 dog lot to a huge fenced in back yard. She can come and go as she pleases on the deck. She loves to lay on a picnic table that is not used for eating, she especially loves it when the umbrella is rolled out for her. When supper is being cooked she knows if she lays there and whines that she will get table food. She has a way of breaking your heart when she starts to howl. Gotta Love them Basset Hounds.

Cold times

It has been pretty cold lately and we need to extra care of our outside animals make sure they have water that is not an ice block. Make sure they have plenty of food. Make sure that their dog houses are dry on the inside. Add cedar chips, carpet, or an old blanket. If the temps get too low bring your outside babies inside. They can get frost bite the same as we can.

Floppy had a good Christmas plenty of left overs which she gets no bones. And she is limited on how many table scraps she gets. Table food is not good for our babies but is okay for an occassional treat. For the last few days she has gotten some really good treats. Today she got the last of the ham. Tomorrow will finish off the turkey.

With a basset hound be careful and do not over feed they can get the bloat and that can be deadly on them so give table food in moderation.

Floppy's favorite treat has turned out to be apples of all things. We had a good crop of apples and she has eaten apples everyday since early Aug. but now I have to buy her apples for there are not any of the others left. I have to take a couple of apples and put them under the apple tree and she goes and gets them. The first one she eats under the tree and the 2nd one she brings back to the house to eat.
