Arrival Story:
I met Drew when she was just a few weeks old and was in with all of her litter mates. I was drawn to her and she came to me. Each time I visited, I kept going back to her and the decision was made, she was the one. At 9 weeks old, she came home with me and has been by my side since and has fit into our dog family just perfectly. I knew that Drew was very smart and decided to test her. Well, she tested out at genius level on the doggy IQ test...a dog smarter than me. At an early age, she demonstrated some very complicated thought processes. She could open doors, turn the water on, retrieve items for me and lots more. I decided to start training her. I have MS and thought if the need ever arose, I could use her as my service dog. Well, lots of things happened inbetween. I trained her to be a therapy dog since she had the natrual gift which led me to start a foundation called Realizing Dreams Thru Dogs which is a service and therapy dog organization. We will be the only org. like this in the country and are currently in our fundraising mode. I have also fully trained Drew to be my personal service dog since my MS has somewhat progressed and some days I need help. She is such a wonderful girl and is a wonderful ambassador for Realizing Dreams. She has touched so many lives now and will continue to do so. She loves visiting the nursing homes and children's hospitals...she has a natural gift of what to do in each situation. I even had the experience of watching her interact with a little girl that rarely spoke since she was autisic...what a moving moment that was. If anyone has any creative ways of fundraising, please let me know since right now all expenses come out of pocket and I am always open to suggestions. We are very thankful for Kramer's Pet Boutique in Tullahoma. They have allowed us to do fundraising at their store and hold obedience classes at their doggy daycare all at no charge to us. All proceeds from the classes goes back into keeping Realizing Dreams going.

Bio:
Realizing Dreams Thru Dogs is a wonderful organization. We hope to be the only one like it in the United States. We will have both service dogs and therapy dogs. We plan of donating our Giant Schnauzers to both search and rescue training teams and law enforcement trainers for their use. Many people do not realize that search and rescue teams must purchase their own dogs and with recent budget cuts, there is no money for law enforcement to obtain K9 dogs. On the occasion that we have an exceptional puppy that passes all evaluations for service dog training for disabled persons work, we will donate that dog for specific training. We also will help locate dogs for training for specific disabilities when needed. Our Standard Schnauzers will be used for service work also. They will be evaluated for many areas to include hearing and sight work. Realizing Dreams will also continue to have a team of therapy dogs. I will personally train these dogs and continue to visit places on a weekly basis. Some of our dogs will be placed with qualified trainers for therapy use and some of the dogs will be trained for therapy dog residency programs. All of this will be a no charge to the recipients. Any dogs not passing the evaluations for use in the program will be placed in a companion home. At Realizing Dreams we are thinking big. We are currently in our fundraising mode. We have been offered 20 acres of land with a house that can be used as our office for about 1/3 of its appraised value. The gentleman really believes in our cause and has given us until the summer to come up with the money for the land. We would like to then go on to build a nice sized dog facility with training rooms and places for public use. We would like to offer public education classes on site as well as at schools and civic groups. As part of doing for others, we have a program designed for the youth that would be in the afternoon after school and during the summer. This is a great way to keep today’s youth focused and busy. By allowing them to participate in basic obedience classes with a RD dog and holding small competitions, they would be able to have a goal to work towards. While most all of the work will be done by myself and the co-founders, we will probably need some very basic part time help with some simple chores. A program has been developed to hire both physically and mentally challenged people. We believe that everyone deserves a chance. Another program that RD will have in place is grooming. We will offer a very low cost grooming for approved applicants that are on fixed or low incomes. Many times, a dog is the only companion a person might have and they deserve to have their companion clean and groomed just like anyone else does. I know that this is no easy task ahead, but I am confident that it will succeed. I have a wonderful testimony that I often give on my life’s story of “Never say Never”. It tells of me as an only child growing up in Mississippi, getting married, moving away from my home town, moving to Saudi Arabia, surviving a terrorist attack, surviving a rare cancer, living with MS, a marriage of 23 years ending which in turn lead to the door opening sooner for Realizing Dreams Thru Dogs. I truly believe everything happens for a reason and will not let anything get me down. If anyone has any question about Realizing Dreams Thru Dogs, just pmail me. Also, if you have any ideas on ways to raise money, we are always open to suggestions. We are in the process of applying for grants, but those can take a year or two. Right now I am grooming a few dogs for people to help keep things afloat along with receiving a few small donations. This keeps me out visiting the nursing homes and hospitals. NEW PROGRAM: We are now working with a Legal Aid program and do therapy visits with the elderly that were victims of abuse by their caregivers and are getting ready to start with the children that were victims of abuse also. Thanks a million!!!! CURRENT NEWS ABOUT OUR DOGS: I have Drew a Giant Schnauzer that is Therapy Dog trained and also my personal Service Dog since I have MS. Drew is the official ambassador for Realizing Dreams. Calli is also a Giant Schnauzer and is being trained for search and rescue and is a Service Dog in Training. Jack and Kyra are our 2 Standard Schnauzer puppies and they are being obedience trained right now and will go on to complete their therapy training. Sara, my Standard Schnauzer and their mom is here just for me. I suppose you could say she has been my emotional support dog thru many rough times in the recent years. Gabbie was our first Schnauzer and due to health issues, we made her a pet. She has ended up being a great support dog for my middle son and has helped him deal with many problems over the past couple of years.
