I'm a survivor from day 1. I survived a big hurricane in Galveston in 2008 called Hurricane Ike. I was found a few days after the storm, & after I was born. My mother had left me & my brother. Me & my brother were found under a deserted porch by a shelter called "Opration Kindness". We were tooken to the shelter that day, which is in Dallas, TX.
I was bottle fed by nice people, although at night I was put into a big, cold, scary cage. That happened every day and every night, for 7 weeks. After one more week, me & my brother had gotten so big. I was living in this teeny tiny cage with him, as I guess they had no other room because of all the rescue dogs that came in from Ike.
One day, this girl & her mom came by my cage. I wagged my tail, & put my nose against her hand through the cage. She was warm & happy. She stood by my cage for a while then asked to take me out. I got so excited my whole body was shaking with happiness.
They took me to this room & & snuggled & played with her, & finally I learned her name was Sabrina. Finally she said "Mom. I want this one."
I laid in her lap as they were going over adoption papers and all this boring stuff that I didn't really know what was going on at the time. But I felt so safe in her arms.
Apparantly I wasn't ready to be picked up for a few more days, but after those few days came & went, finally I was picked up.
The shelter worker set me on the ground & I just ran into my new mommy's arms. I felt safe & free. There was so much adventure I was missing out on being in that shelter. I couldn't wait to be with her every day fr the rest of my life.
I remember a week after I was adopted, I was taken to the vet because I was sick. Really sick. The vet had told us it could be distemper, & I remember seeing my mommy's eyes fill up with tears, and he held me tight & cried "I don't wanna lose you." I didn't really know what was going on, but I kept looking at her & I knew something was wrong, I just didn't know what. However, when I was put on antibiotics & the tests came back, it turns out I just had really bad kennel cough.
I couldn't be a happier dog today. I live with 4 other roommates (3 chihuahuas, and a poodle), & they are so much fun to play with. I have comfy bedss & couches I like to sleep on, & a nice place to walk with my mommy every day.
It's strange how things work out, before my mommy came to the shelter, she was looking for a purebred, & I'm definitely not a purebred. But I stole her heart the second she saw me, when my puppy eyes lit up, & I knew her "standards", and what she was planning on wanting dropped automatically.
She said it's the best decision she's ever made by saving me. It makes her feel good inside, & like she'll always have a best friend. And she will. I'm with her day and night; the nights filled with crying, the days when she's sick, I'm always there. When she goes out, I'm there right by the door waiting for her to come home. For 4 years I've been loyal to her, & I will be loyal to her forever, because she's my mommy, & I love her, & I know she loves me right back.
~Poem time~
Oh how I had a rough day,
Under a porch in Galveston I was forced to lay
Before I was young and weak,
There was no mother, that I could seek.
Hurricane Ike, I was definitely scared,
Me and my brother, under a porch we shared
Now at my nice home, so exciting and nice,
Not at the shelter or Galveston, where I almost had to sacrifice.
I decided to have "If Everyone Cared" by Nickelback to be my main song on my page. It's a very moving song, and it really can relate to when dogs are in shelters, or when a lucky dog (like me), was adopted from a shelter. My mom wasn't even looking for a mixed breed or anything. She wanted a purebred. But she saw my eyes and I saw hers, and it was true love! :-)
awwwwwwwww, my mom is getting mushy and stuff! NO! :D
Anyways, I have little chickadees as my background! I hope everyone is doing well and everyone has an awesome Easter, and dogs, get some chocolateee! :P
First I had one dog. Then I proved responsibility for 2. Then 3 dogs. Then 4 dogs. It took me a year to beg my parents for another one. Finally my step dad agreed to it, and it took me a long time to find the perfect dog. I went to some pet stores (which I know are NOT good at all to buy dogs, but I was just looking) and I went online to breeders and rescues and none of them REALLY caught my eye. I went to the shelter where I volunteer, and found you as a little 8 week old puppy. You couldn't be tooken to a new home without getting neutered first, (which took two days) but I somehow managed to wait. ;) I read your story online and you had a rough start to life. I wanted to give you another start! :)
Now your just soo clumsy and happy with your life, and you make me laugh ALL the time!
