Leave a bone for Hugo

Nicknames: Hugie, Hug-o, though different volunteers have different names for him

Quick Bio:
| -mutt | -pound dog | -dog rescue | |
Likes: Destroying toys, Kongs, getting to play, food

Pet-Peeves: Going new places (scaredy-cat!),Not being taken out, being ignored by potential adopters

Favorite Toy: Soccer ball that has not yet been popped (if he can find one)

Favorite Food: Anything!

Favorite Walk: The large, grassy play area at the shelter

Best Tricks: Tippy toes (stands on hind legs); knows basic obedience

Arrival Story: Hugo has a long story. He was brought to the shelter when he was five and stayed there for a long time, too long. The shelter had to make some hard desicions with him and he was close to being put down. Then a very nice man came and took him home. Now he lives with a family and seems to be very spoiled. For more of this guys story read his diary.

Bio: Hugo has been at the shelter for quite some time now. Because he is a big, strong boy he needs someone who can handle him and so would be best in a home with children 12 years and older and does not always get along with other dogs so he needs to be an only pet. The shelter claims that he can jump a six-foot fence, but I've never seen him try. He has been through a basic obedience class and is very well behaved except for the fact that he pulls on the leash. He is one of the friendliest dogs we have at the shelter right now, and deserves a loving home. Can anyone out there look past his football-player body type and booming bark?

My alma mater is in the process of painting several murals to make the shelter look more inviting to potential adopters, and I'm included! The last picture on my page is of my portrait. What an honor!

Hugo has sent us a letter! And some pictures! The three bottom ones are the new pics of him in his new home with his mom and dad! Doesn't he look happy!
Here's the note he sent with the pics!
Hi Everyone,
I’m so happy in my new home. I have two dogs that I play with, lots of toys and two children that use me as a pillow when they watch TV. As you see in the picture, I get to lay on the couch and sleep in a bed with my new mom and dad. I really love my mom, I follow her around the house and sleep at her feet in the evening.
Life is Good!
Love,
Hugo

One of the shelter volunteers went up to see Hugo. He's doing very well. He's lost a little wieght and is calming down alot. They have not had any problems with him, other that the normal doggie quirks (getting in the garbage/tearing up his toys...). They have decide that they are deffinatly going to keep him because of how he is fitting into the family. He even does fairly well with the trainer's other dog. The trainer believes that Hugo may have been started on a 'training' for dog fighting, so this is what has caused a lot of his problems. Although we will never know his past, we do know that his future is going to be the wonderfull time he deserves!
