My Tail of Devotion for Pedro

I was contacted by The Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue regarding Pedro, a dachshund that needed a new home. His owner was having personal issues and she needed to move immediately. She could only take 1 of her 4 dogs, so Pedro was in need of rescue. I agreed to take in Pedro, who is a very special little guy.

Pedro is handicapped, but he never used a wheelchair cart. Well, I just happen to have Johanna's old Eddies Wheels cart, so I put him in it. He took to it immediately! He can now walk around with the rest of the gang! He looks so happy and free!

Our good friend Cat has decided to donate a brand new Doggon' Wheels cart for Pedro, as the Eddies Wheels cart is falling apart. He will soon have his own set of wheels to keep him walking for years to come!

The other dogs took to Pedro immediately. They have never done this before! Pedro is so laid back and happy. Within minutes he was playing with the gang like he had been here for years.

Pedro is also special because he is epileptic. He takes a pill twice a day to prevent having seizures. Although I am very familiar with epilepsy in humans(my wife has epilepsy) I have never dealt with it in a dog before. It does not affect him, he is just a normal dog here in the Weinerdog house.

Unfortunately, Pedro developed an infection and his little body was unable to fight it off. He passed away on New Year's Day morning (1-1-09) and now is free of pain and handicaps and pills. We only knew Pedro for 2 months, but he has left tracks on our hearts forever. We miss you little boy...

Dear Diary:

I am now in my new home! I miss my old home and my friends and family, but this new house is really cool! There are 9 other dogs here, including 2 that can't walk just like me! They all like me and are very nice to me, and I like that. This is a great place to be!

My new Daddy gave me a new wheelchair cart to use, and it is much easier to use than my old one. Now I can run around and play just like the other dogs here! They are all so cool, but Johanna and Pork Chop are extra special. They use wheelchair carts just like me, so I don't feel so alone.

I love my new home and I am very happy!
