Arrival Story: It was 1997, I was 23, and felt it was a good time in my life to have a dog of my own. I had dogs all my life, but my parents generally took care of them. I had been visiting the local SSPCA, but I hadn't had the spark that I was looking for. I knew I wanted a heeler, not black and certainly not male. Also I didn't want a puppy. Nothing like having to deal with a baby, and housetraining. So that July I went for my monthly visit. The puppy room was the first room you entered. I walked in and looked around. Lots of small dogs and puppies. Then tucked away there was black smallish dog staring at me. He came up to the door , stuck his nose through the bars and licked me. I looked at the specs on it..boy, nine months old, heeler, black and tan. Well he had one trait that I was looking for...Heeler. I knew he wasn't what I was looking for, but I thought he deserved to go out to the play yard. On the walk out he was awesome. He walked perfectly on the leash. There were balls in the yard and I threw them for him. He retrieved great as well. He would bring the ball right back and lay next to me till I threw another ball. I ended up spending two hours with him in the yard. On the way back I knew we were meant to be.

Bio: Since I got Jack we have been inseperable. Jack was there for me when I felt I had no one else. He has traveled across the country, and into Canada, with me in my old van. When I moved to Alaska he was loaded up and became a snow loving dog. Who knew my California boy loved the snow! He would wake me up in the middle of the night if it had begun to snow....not such a great thing. Now Jack is a bit of a grumpy old man. He is still my number one guy though. I know I will never have another friend like Jack.

Forums Motto: Did I say you could do that?
