Favorite Toy: Squeaky plush ball Favorite Food: Liver treats Favorite Walk: Heebner Park Best Tricks: This is more like a best trait . . . greeting & loving new people-pals Arrival Story: I had been searching for a 'lap-dog' for my elderly Mother for some time. My friends from P.A.L. in Yukon (PA) called to report that she was with them & ready for adoption.
I had adopted a fiesty little guy from them previously . . . 'Kinky'. But he was a bit snappy & had lots of medical issues.
I went out as soon as I could. Phoebe was not too delighted with staying at a shelter. So CUTE! I took her home and she imediately fit right in . . . Kinky even tolerated her (actually, secretly came to love her). She even became his seeing-eye-dog after he went blind.
By that time, the facility where my parents lived in SC strongly suggested that we not bring a dog into their home. They had 24-hr nurse-aide care. Not all aides like dogs. They were to be caring for my folks not a dog.
Mom had always loved Kinky's visits soooooo much! We just added Phoebe to the carload and planned to go down to SC more often.
My Mom passed away Feb.2008 (so did her beloved Kinky) & my Dad passed away in June 2008 but they both enjoyed the heck out of the almost monthly visits from Phoebe for their passed few years. They often looked forward more to seeing her than me!
It was always wonderful to see them light up when she ran in, flew through the house to the den & pounced up onto their laps! Even the aides who supposedly hated dogs came to love her . . . one was even inspired to go out & adopt a dog from the local Pound for herself. Phoebe (& I) still keep in touch with her.
She is always right by my side.
We are now taking training for her to become a therapy-dog. She always looks forward to meeting new friends everywhere we go! Forums Motto: Born on Valentine's Day . . . My Sweety! I've Been On Dogster Since:
