Arrival Story: I'd been wanting a Border Collie for as long as I can remember. Lots and lots of reading and research later I had made the decision to reserve a puppy from a breeder I adored. To really prepare myself I decided I should foster border collies while I waited for my litter. I applied for approval through the ARC BC rescue and fostered a feisty 8 month old male. During this time I was pet sitting for one of the ladies that was involved in the rescue and I cared for a litter of 6 week old puppies. That's when I first saw met Zen. She was the chubby runt of the litter and spent her time following me around and playing with a ball. I was in love, but a couple from Washington state had a claim on her so I gave up hope on her. A couple weeks later, Zen's foster mom let me know that the couple had backed out on her adoption. I immediately went over to recheck the litter and make sure I really wanted her. I backed out of my reservation with the breeder and she went home with me a few days later.
Bio: Zen's name came from my hope that my first border would be a peaceful match for me. I was right! She's a loving, peaceful companion with brains to boot. She completed top of her puppy class and received her STAR through the AKC. She went on to do a lot of foundation work for agility and some upper level manners classes. After a long time hiatus (darn mom graduating college!) she's back in business and taking both rally-o and agility classes. She's registered with APDT and soon to compete! Zen's also a member of Dog Scout troop #194 and loves her outings with the scouts!
Forums Motto: Zen and the art of fetching tennis balls
Hi everyone! Long time no update! Just thought I'd share some things that have happened since .... over a year ago!
I earned my novice trick dog title through Do More With Your Dog and I'm pretty excited about it. Who knew all my fun tricks could pay off? We're working on our intermediate title next!
I've been enrolled in agility classes and I'm not so sure I like them yet. That training place can get a little too hectic for me at times but ma is trying to help me through it. It just gets so loud in there! Anywho, hopefully we both work on it and we can start doing some serious agility training!
I'm registered with APDT so we are about to start trialing. Ma and I aren't sure we are totally ready yet (she's more nervous than I am for sure) but we are going to give it a shot in a week! Wish us luck!
Wyatt and I joined our local dog scout troop (#194) and we love it! The hikes and parties and all the other events are a blast! Our troop leader is also our agility trainer and we adore her. Join Dog Scouts! Its super fun!
Well, I think that's about it. Hope everyone's doing well.
Wee! I've never, ever seen more than a flurry and today I got to play in my first real snow! And man ... what a good first snow! It's bucketing down here! I ran around with Wyatt in it ( he doesn't like it so much ) and it come up to my knees! I was trying to catch the snowflakes and chomped the snow all over the ground! Such great fun! I hope all you other pups get some snow!
Hello everyone! Hope all is well! I have exciting news for all Virginia dogs! The Pet Expo is coming this Saturday, Feb. 21st, and will benefit humane societies around here. My ma, Wyatt, and I will all be there to support the event and to work the stand for ma's job, All Dog Playskool. We're having an agility demonstration too! I wish I could partake!! On Friday ma is taking me to Dogma to get a bath and get my nails painted all pretty. She says I'm even gonna get a bandana. :) What an exciting weekend! Hope to see you all out there!!
