Arrival Story: Originally, I had wanted a Bernese Mountain Dog and we had talked to some breeders but with so many dogs needing homes I decided to go the rescue route. Spending time on petfinder brought us to a Homeward Bound adoption event at some pet supply store out in the suburbs. The dog we had in mind showed some aggression - and was immediately ruled out (we've been there, it is no fun and now we have a 2-year old). Then we saw the very quite, sweet Murphy dog.
Murphy had been brought to Minnesota from Fargo. He had a health issue (he is embarrassed about it) which might have kept him from staying in any one home too long. After a few rounds of bloodwork they identified the problem and he is on Proin for the rest of his life. I also wonder if he lived somewhere that only had a concrete run because although we have a decent sized yard he prefers to do his business on the sidewalk or patio - not on the grass. Go figure and watch your step while you are at it.
He is cuddly. He likes to snuggle. I think he likes women more than men. He has snarled at a few men but never at a woman. In fact he seems to warm up to women pretty quickly. He is good with kids - but I am not 100% confident in him. If a kid approaches him from the back he might snarl - although that is not the proper way to approach a dog - I have a three-year old who has friends who will do that regardless - so we are trying to work on it.
He has slowly been coming around to having a relationship with Woody, the cat. There was a few rough moments, a midnight trip to the emergency vet, 18 stitches and a few thousand dollars later - things seem to be working out. Bio: Murphy is obviously a Short-Haired Miniature Bernese Mountain Dog. I expect that the AKC will be making the breed official any day now. I've Been On Dogster Since:
