So Dixie is back with her original foster family, her favorite place. She is playing with the other foster dogs and loving it. She is doing really well, albeit for the small dripping. However, at this house she has a bunch of room outside to roam and run with the other dogs so her foster family doesn't notice it at all. She is still waiting to find her perfect home.

So we had Dixie over our house yesterday! She was so excited and remembered being there about a year ago. So much so that she went to find her favorite toy, an old rubber soccer ball she borrowed from our other dog, Gia. We played fetch, her favorite game, for a while in the backyard until she tired us out. Then we all sat on the porch and relaxed for a couple of hours. I read with her at my feet. She is so loving and was just content to sit there and occassionally look up with that big smile of hers!
Her leaking has improved a ton, and is just an occasional drip. When she drinks a bunch of water after running it does form a small puddle. Poor thing. The medication did help, but she still has the problem. Only time will tell if it will get even better.
Her 3-legged moving is fantastic! She was a little wobbly when we fostered her last year, but seeing her now she is faster than our other dog! You wouldn't tell she only had three legs, she jumps in and out of the car, and sits on command with no problems.
We were so happy to see her and her progress thus far! She went back to her foster family this morning and her two friends, Roscoe and Sasha. I think they missed having her around, she definitely missed them.

So it's been almost a year since Dixie was saved. The owner who left her to die was convicted guilty with a $100 fine and 80 hours of community service. It is far from justice, but Dixie is happy and out of harm's way, which is the most important thing.
Over the last year she has had medical ups and downs, but now is with a new foster family and is doing great! She has 2 other dogs to play with and can go outside whenever she wants through the doggie door. She still leaks a bit, but it has gotten much better in the last year. She will need a family that won't mind the occassional leaking, or a family that will have a large outdoor space for her. She prefers to be around people or dogs, so if she is outside we would like her to have other dogs around.
There are so many people that have invested love, time and money into Dixie. She is a complete sweetheart. We want her to have the best home possible, and want to help her get to her forever home.
Adoption applications will be accepted from any city/state, as we want her to find her perfect forever home. Travel arrangements can be made.

Pretty good day today! She learned two new tricks, shake and up. We also have her and Gia wait at their doggie bowls until we go, "OK!" and then they can both start eating. She catches on so quickly.
Her foster Dad is making more beef jerky today in the kitchen. Maybe that's why they both keep walking in there? :-)
She smashed her soccer squeeky ball toy, she wore it out! We have to buy her some tennis balls.
She is going to the vet for her check up tomorrow, keep your fingers crossed everything is healing ok! More updates to come.

She got her first bath while she was here today. She dries so quickly! And I'm still amazed we have no fur in the house from her, it's all from our dog! There is black hair everywhere! I think it's starting to stick to Dixie.
She loves her tire that Pete got for her, it's a little plastic tire. She loves chewing on it. Thank God there hasn't been chewing on anything else yet. When she wants to play she rubs her nose into the pillow or the blanket and starts to snort. It's hilarious!
She now knows how to sit and stay. We only let her come in the house when we say OK. She learns really well from Gia. It's been 2 days and she sits pretty much every time. She's very smart and loves to please. Maybe it's the beef jerky? We tried apples today, doesn't like those. She does like cheese!
She is now laying infront of her crate on a bunch of blankets. We read her medical report tonight, it goes back to June when she got hit by a car. I can't imagine half of her life has been being poked and prodded and recovering. Now it's time for the good stuff!

Last night went very well. She loves her crate. especially with all of the pillows and blankets. She didn't peep last night! Today she took a little outing to Petsmart for some toys and then on a short walk. Got home and played with the ball in the back for a bit. She loves it! She's now relaxing on the floor infront of the TV.
We started the first command, "Come!" She gets home made beef jerky when she comes. Gia is showing her how to do it.
Stay tuned!

She has been with us a few hours now and is settling in very nicely. She loves her toys and her pillow bed. She loves sleeping with her head cuddled up against something. See the picture above. She was sleeping on our dog (Gia's) legs and snuggled up next to Pete.
We took a video of her and will put it on the site soon. She is playing with one of her toys. You would never know she is missing a back leg! She doesn't have any issues when petting where her leg was. She is so gentle. There is no agression whatsoever with our current dog, food or toys. She has the best disposition.
She doesn't know any commands yet, but we will start working with her once she settles in and recuperates. We don't foresee the training being very hard!
Please let us know if you have any questions!
