June 15th 1996

Mila passed away on March 22, 2007 at the age of 10-1/2 from peripheral nerve sheath tumor cancer. She joined her puppy friends Riley and Cody at the dog park in the sky.

Being disturbed while napping. Also when her humans change the lyrics of classic rock tunes into songs about her. And the guy in blue with pieces of paper for the mailbox who returns every day!

Favorite Toy:
Squeaky goose, crab dogtoy, snake, two squirrel squeak toys, and back to the goose. She doesn't destroy them.

Favorite Food:
Popcorn and garbanzo beans

Favorite Walk:
Half Moon Bay Beach; Pulgas Ridge Park in San Carlos; Windy Hill Park in Portola Valley; Fort Funston in San Francisco.

Best Tricks:
Her highness doesn't do tricks. She does lie down and shake, but ONLY when you have a treat.

Arrival Story:
Mila found me! I was running late to a softball game in East Austin in August 1996 when a little puppy with a chicken bone in her mouth ran across three lanes of traffic on East Cesar Chavez Street (a busy road) and I pulled over to see if she was okay. She trotted up to me full of sassy puppy attitude, and started to climb into my car. She still has the sassy puppy attitude and has us wrapped around her paw... We miss her very much.

Mila was a big traveler - since she found me in Austin we've moved to Washington, D.C., the Bay Area, by way of Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa, and somewhere in there traveled back down to Texas a few times, moved to (Newark) NYC, and back to the Bay Area from NYC (traveling by way of the TransCanadian Highway and down the Pacific Coast Highway. Mila crossed the US at least six times and Canada once. She traveled to 37 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces in her puppy life!
