Nicknames:
Kota

Quick Bio:
-purebred-pound dog-dog rescue

Arrival Story:
We were contacted by Echo and asked to go and evaluate a dog at the Harrison County Dog Pound in Cadiz, OH and there we found Dakota. She was a little growly at first but when we got her on her own she warmed up nicely, showing no aggression towards dogs or humans, interest in toys, but very very shy. We scooped her up and brought her home to start preparing her to be adopted to the forever home she deserves.

Bio:
Dakota's previous owners moved to Oh. from Penn. with hopes of starting a rescue/grooming/kennel business. Unfortunately they amassed 40 dogs and their house was foreclosed on, they ended up having to camp with their dogs at their shelter. Eventually the went to the dog warden and asked to have food donated because they could no longer afford to feed the dogs properly. The rescue co-ordinator at the pound heard of this and told the couple they had to give up some of the dogs, for obvious reasons. They ended up giving up 8 dogs, Dakota being on of them. Some dogs were in better shape than others (luckily Dakots is nice and healthy looking but will be seen by a vet. as soon as we can). Well, Dakota was going to be put to sleep if we didnt act fast (pretty sure it would have been the day after we saved her). So now this petite puppy is living inside a house for the first time in her life (and having to deal with those darn leash things!), and is adjusting well to her new surroundings and will be ready to be adopted out soon!

Now that i have vented.

I would like to ask all that read this to please let people you know that are looking to proved a wonderful and caring home to a sweetheart of a dog to please contact us.

After the ordeal she went through described in the previous entry, Dakota was taken into manhatten to stay at a wonderful dog spa where she will recover for a few days. The next step for Dakota is to a good forever home, back to us, or to a new foster home.

We are currently going through applications once again for forever homes and would like any help we can get.

Well it has been an interesting first month for little miss Dakota! She was diagnosed heartworm positive and had some pretty nasty seperation anxiety. We have started heartworm treatment, so she is going to be with us for atleast 4 months while we get her treatment complete and then spay her. Her first couple of weeks she went through some seperation anxiety but going from her home, to the pound, and then to us she was bound to have some issues. She is progressing brilliantly though. She is working on her commands right now. She is a hot dog (she really likes hot dogs)motivated girl. She has mastered sit and we are working on perfecting down. Of course shake is a must command! She can also kind of dance. You have never seen a dog with better balance than her. So we are trying to teach her to dance. She is a delightful little girl and it is a pleasure to have her=)!!!!!
