Arrival Story:
My dad wanted a hunting dog. He had recently been to Germany and seen the Slovakian/Slovensky Kopov's they used for Boar hunting. Despite not knowing anything about the dog he got one. Being my dad he never walks him, feeds him, waters him, or gives him vet care. Therefore, I have taken it upon myself. I've trained him really well and walk him for an hour and up every day. He is a great dog, such a suck :)

Bio:
From what I understand he was born in Germany then shipped to Canada where he was sold to my dad.

Went To Petland... Again!

So, this entry is a little late but I've been busy and haven't had time to get Elaine to type it.

Anyway, Elaine took me to Petland again because the harness she had bought me wasn't fitting right. She went in with the harness and receipt and got her money back. While she was standing at the counter I was enjoying so many smells! Every time someone walked by I HAD to sniff them! I mean, everyone smells different and I wanted to get to know all of them!

This lady walked by and asked Elaine if it would be okay if I got a free toy. I didn't know what that meant but apparently this hedgehog toy had been vandalised and she was going to write it off. But, back onto the subject at paw, Elaine took the toy and waved it in front of me. Boy, that thing was fun! I grabbed it and carried it around before settling down and chewing frantically. The nice lady asked if there was any chance I'd rip it up and I almost laughed! Elaine did it for me, however, so I didn't need to but she explained that my mouth is much too soft to tear up anything.

So after getting the new toy, which Elaine put in her pocket for later, we went to the harness section. Elaine showed me some really fancy harnesses that were colorful and everything. She was considering buying me a tartan harness because, well, her mom's side is scottish, until she saw the price! Wow, that was an expensive harness!

Elaine then went over to the other side, which had some not so fancy harnesses and picked one up but it had numbers instead of words and Elaine is really bad with numbers. Just as she was going to ask a pet store lady she looked over and saw me peeing on the shelf. Now, I am a dog and, well, that shelf was mine now! Elaine understood, thank goodness, and went up to the employee lady. She explained that I had peed and both employees said it actually happened a lot! Then they said it was weird I had told them because usually people do not!

I couldn't believe that! Who wouldn't tell someone that their child has drawn on your wall?! It's just pet store etiquette, really. After some really gross stories about people who hadn't told and ended up causing accidents in the store, Elaine asked for help. The lady was really nice and picked out a blue harness that fit me perfectly!

She, like most people, asked if I was a doberman mix but Elaine quickly dissuaded her of the notion by explaining that I was a Slovakian slash Slovensky Kopov.

"What's that?" The lady asked in disbelief.

"Oh, he's a German bloodhound. Imported."

Here the lady actually squealed! "That's so awesome! I love German things 'cause I have relatives in Germany! He's so pretty!"

I agreed and proceeded to ham it up for her before Elaine dragged me away to go buy the harness. She also bought better dog food for me (Wellness) and now I feel much better!

So, that's the end of this entry. I look forward to next time!

Adventure In Town

My family lives in the country (with nice acreage) so I often walk in the bush. However, today Elaine took me into town. It was so much fun! There were a lot of smells and I was pulling Elaine every which way trying to smell everything at once. Elaine says I'm not very good at walking but I'm a hound, what does she expect?

So, anyway, we went down to the river. It flooded last season and their were muddy rocks and debris everywhere! Elaine took me to a sandy area with a lot of beer bottles and fish skeletons. Some of the fish skeletons were under the sand and I had a facinating time finding and digging them up. I even tried to taste one but it was yucky.

When Elaine took me into the residential areas she was watching to make sure I behaved. I didn't care about the white dog in the yard or the humans in the truck because I was having too much fun smelling everything! Elaine gave me an extra long petting session for that.

Afterwards she took me to Petland. Elaine doesn't agree with pet stores but shipping is expensive so she sometimes buys from them. Today she went to buy me an H harness. So many smells! I smelled rats, hamsters, birds, other dogs, and lots of people. I sat when told to sit and was very well behaved. Despite the crowds I stayed where I was and didn't bark, growl, or get aggressive at all!

Afterwards Elaine took me home and I was soooo tired; I dropped into my bed and was out like a light. I slept until my walk time came around but Elaine didn't take me because I had already gone! That was dissapointing but she was tired from the town stroll and she promised to take me first thing tomorrow morning.

Well, it's getting late and I have to head off to bed. Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello!

Not many know about my breed (Dogster doesn't even have a selection for it) and Google brings up very little. Thus, I shall tell you through these diaries... well, not me exactly; my caregiver will be dictating for me because I don't have opposable thumbs.. or any fingers, really.

I suppose for my first diary entry I should tell you a few things about myself. I am a very hyper dog and, despite going for an hour walk each day, still have energy to spare. My caregiver (whom I shall refer to as Elaine from now on) would love to give me more than one walk per day but is very busy with school.

I am extremely playful and love the rough and tumble. My favourite toy is a blanket from my doggie bed and not that expensive Kong Elaine bought me. Since I am a hound bred for hunting boars in Germany I don't exactly get the idea of fetch but Elaine is hoping I'll catch on. Personally, I don't understand what this 'fetch' is; I'm supposed to find the toy, not bring it back because that would defeat the whole purpose of leading her to it.

I'm very eager to please and learn tricks very fast. I do have problems with dog aggression and dominance but Elaine is working on that. I've learned many tricks in the short time since I came to my home, let me give you a list:

Sit (kinda speaks for itself)
Stay (and I am so good at it)
Come (I tend to get distracted with this one. So many new smells!)
Up (where I jump up and dance on my hindlegs)
Down (I lay down. Sometimes I'm too enthusiastic with this one)
BANG (I play dead. Haven't quite got the hang of it but Elaine's confident I can do it!)

I also won't touch food dropped on the floor unless Elaine says 'OK' and won't accept food handed to me unless she gives the green light.

I used to be bullied by Elaine's cat named Sasha. That cat was grumpy! I do miss her now that she's gone, though and hope Elaine gets another cat! (One that won't hiss and scratch me)

I am a big suck! I love to be pet, rubbed, scritched, and generally pampered. I will sit on your feet to be petted and lean against you, begging for a belly rub. Oh, and don't tell Elaine but I've discovered that whenever I'm on my bed and she leans down if I expose my belly and give her puppy eyes she scratches my belly!

I am not a very social dog and get scared in new situations. Elaine once took me walking in the city and it was scary! I'm very timid when I'm uncomfortable but if you are a stranger and you come near my home; watch out!

I recently chased off a bear and was praised a lot for it! Now I know that bears are not okay!

Well, I suppose that's the end of this journal entry. Don't forget to come back for more!

P.S I also have videos that Elaine uploaded to YouTube so if you want to see me in all my glory go to http://www.youtube.com/BarkingPup
