Bear had his vet appointment last week and the arthritis in his hips/legs has gotten worse. His back leg shakes from muscle loss and we're trying Adequan.
He also has a thyroid issue which could explain the excess weight even though we've been on the green bean diet for awhile! So a med for that. Fish oil capsules still standard and we're gonna try a new food.
Other than the leg shaking he doesn't look like a 10 year old elkie. Well, the graying snout may give it away a bit, but we're doing all we can to keep him healthy, happy and comfy in his golden years.
Other elkie owners--have you had arthritis or thyroid issues as they age.
Bear is my best friend, my dog son and I will do everything to make him live to 20!
But as my 1st dog, since he was 8 weeks old and I was 20 years old, we've been best pals, lived all over the place, driven cross country, gone to grad school and even gone to work together. It's hard watching them grow up, knowing they won't be with you forever...
but he's a happy pooch. I'm a happy dog-momma. Elkies are a special breed...quirky and unique. A vacuum's dream.
so here's to many more years with my fur ball...may we conquer more states, a new job and sweet Elkie friends along the way.
