Arrival Story:
I'd been volunteering at a shelter where Goldie was calling home. She had been there for a good 2-3 months, as it was assumed that her "Pit Bull" scared people away from adopting her. I got the opportunity to take her camping, bring her to work with me, take her on extra outings during my volunteer sessions. The first day I brought her to work, she must have known. Goldie followed me everytime I got up from my desk, even if I didn't go far enough to get out of eyesight. I kept her overnight, and when I brought her back the next morning I was told that a family was going to come see her and would most likely adopt her. I was okay with this at the time because I live in an apartment that "doesn't allow dogs" - although I was, admittedly, sad to see her go. Not a month later, I came in one day to have one of the staff say "guess who is back?!" - sure enough, there was my girl! (Oh wait, I was supposed to be sad she was back, right? ;) ). A few days later I took her camping for the weekend, which she loved. This poor girl had come to a shelter as a stray, and was put on death row until the shelter I work with rescued her. She was shortly after pegged as "not good with children" and "not good with other dogs" - and from just seeing her in the shelter you'd think that this Pit Bull mix pup was a little crazy (always barked at other dogs, or as people walked by, etc.). I'd been "fostering" Goldie for a few weeks and it didn't take long to realize that she was "my" dog (although, like I mentioned, I think she knew the first day). Meanwhile, she keeps me company, has a hard time being left alone, and is currently sitting at my feet in the office. What a life:)
