Moving!

I have an exciting diary entry to make. A week or so ago I was put in a van and we headed south on the freeway. I was pretty used to going to Colorado Springs so when we got to the north of Colorado Springs I expected to turn off as usual. But NO – we kept going and then changed direction towards the land where the sun rises. The houses and big building were all left behind and there was lots of green space as far as I could see.

I got to a new place with lots more space around the buildings than I’ve ever seen. It was somewhere I’ve not been before and where there are other dogs but more room for us all than at MaxFund. I was welcomed by a kind man and he has helped me settle in. I think that this may well be my new home since I’ve been here quite a while and everyone has been nice to me!

I have been for walks along with other dogs and they are all real nice and friendly. The scents here are amazing. There are no vehicle exhaust fumes and other yucky smells. It is more like in Colorado Springs but fresher and even more different. I knew deer and rabbit smells from my visits to the Springs and squirrels from Denver and I am pretty sure that I recognize horse smells too since I met them along the Highline Canal in Denver. However there are even more interesting smells – one is from an animal that just stares at me. I think it is a cross between a horse and a deer.

I am not sure if the humans will have time to update my diary regularly but I wanted to tell you my change in circumstances and that the Year of the Dragon has been lucky so far. I think it is auspicious and a good omen that I am beginning my new life in the land of the rising sun!

I realize my humans are none too good about keeping a diary for me. A whole year has passed since my last log!
The Year of the Rabbit was a good one for me. I went down to Colorado Springs an few times. The animals there are incredible. I am still amazed by those very large things they call deer. I also had some good long weekends visiting my friends in the Denver area.
I enjoyed some visits to a great Doggy Day Care Center (The Barkway in Denver) who give some of us MaxFund dogs some A&R (Action and Relaxation - Ha ha!).
One thing that was nice was that I had my photo taken by a professional photographer (Janet Litton). I have included one of the photos on my page (the one with the Blue Background!)
Now it is the Year of the Dragon. I wonder what this year will bring!

Year of the Rabbit

This is the fourth month in the Chinese Year of the Rabbit. Since this is a good year for humans born in the Year of the Dog, I figure it must be a good year for dogs too! Maybe I will find a forever home this year?

My human friends are not very good at keeping up posting my activities! I have been going out on staycations at my human friends' house and we've also been on a couple of longer trips to Colorado Springs. You wouldn't believe the wildlife in the yard there. Weird large animals with antlers that smelled really different to the squirrels in Denver! They were also so much bigger than squirrels that I decided that they did not need chasing! Speaking of rabbits. There are also lots of them as well and I have to say that they are a bit more tempting to chase!

Well I must be off to bed now. I am enjoying my "long weekend" as my humans describe it. I'm not sure what a weekend is but I enjoy all the long walks we take!

December again

Woof - time goes quickly! It's been lovely weather this year. I have been enjoying the summer and fall. Taking walks along the canal and paddling in the rivers has been great but of course it is far too cold now. Grrrrrrrr. This time of year is when I would have liked one of my ancestors to have been a husky or maybe even a malamute - a Shar pei's coat just wasn't made for frigid temperatures!

I have been visiting human friends at their houses often this year. I have also been on a few car rides that lasted a couple hours. That's a pretty long time but I enjoyed them. It is great looking out and seeing so many new sights - and then of course arriving at a different place!

So, it is Christmas soon and I get to go and celebrate with human friends away from the shelter. I am kinda hoping Santa will visit and leave me a new Kong Wubba and perhaps a treat-ball and maybe even a new frisbee...I can assure him that I have been a nice (NOT a naughty) dog ALL year!

Happy Holidays to you all!

First Day of Spring and there is still snow!

I think I said that I finished my boarding-training session with flying colors! Now you can see some photos of when I go to follow-up refresher classes. You can also see how the word "down" is interpreted differently by different dogs! Please note that I am in the foreground in the appropriate down position - not rolling around or slouched against the wall!

I have been to my friends house several times since I spent Christmas and New Year with them. When it got really cold I had to wear a pretty embarrasing jacket, as you can see in the photo. However, although I love licking snow I am not that keen on being cold so the jacket was probably a good idea and at least it wasn't pink. I also had minor surgery recently to remove my dew-claws. That went very well. I recuperated for a bit at my friends house and I now can't really remember that I ever had them.

I am now back full time at the shelter now and can entertain visitors if you'd like to visit (hint, hint).

During my last entry I was at boarding school. I worked hard and it took a lot of concentration but I graduated!

I have now learnt lots of manners and feel pretty confident of my grasp of English. I ace "sit" "down" and "stay" and know a "kennel" means that I need to go to my crate. I am still working on coming precisely when called - that's a toughy especially when there are those squirrel critters laughing at me! Also the "heel" concept is OK when I have been out and about a while but early in my walk it is not much fun.

Anyway - I am back at the shleter now so please see my web page at www.themaxfund.org or come by the shelter to meet me in person!

Training boarding school

My news is that I am in a training program at a boarding school in North Denver (http://www.americandogschool.net). I am enjoying my stay here very much. Every one is very kind and I am learning a lot.

For instance, who knew "quiet" means that I should STOP barking? I always thought when people started yelling "quiet" they were joining IN with my barking!

It is nice to know more English - doglish is of course my native language. Well there is lots to do so I will get back to my studies.

More when I graduate!

Summer heat!

Well, we are having some very warm weather here in Denver! One of my favorite walks is down by the river or perhaps it is the one around the lake... Either way I enjoy the water. I have to admit that I am not up for swimming but I really do enjoy a bit of a paddle. I also love to watch the bubbles - my ambition is to catch one that doesn't break!

Summer Update!

It was a great 3 months and I very much enjoyed my new home. My person loved me very much and we had very good times together. Unfortunately, I did not get along with everyone in the household and it was thought to be for the best if I came back to the shelter to find another home. I am also getting treatment for my hip that hurts periodically and I will likely need medication for the rest of my life. The good news is that the medication is not expensive and it doesn’t interfere with the quality of my life. In fact, I take it like it’s a treat - although I do keep telling the humans that cream cheese or hotdog helps maintain that charade!

Spring at last!

Well, I think this will be my last diary entry since I am too busy having fun in my new home. Yes, I have been adopted and it is great! I just hope all the other dogs who are looking for a home can be as lucky as me.
