Arrival Story:
Jake was injured on a New Mexico reservation but someone recognized what a sweet dog he is and drove him to MaxFund (www.themaxfund.org) to get medical attention and start a new life.

Bio:
I'm loving, active, happy, and handsome (as you can clearly see from my photos!). I am about 4 years old. I'm house-broken, house-trained, and just wonderful! I get on with adults and teenagers but no children in my family would be best since I am afraid of children. Soon after I got to MaxFund I underwent hip surgery to correct an old injury. I'm doing great and have regained complete mobility. I'm finished with my physical therapy and I am ready to begin my new life. However, I still need to exercise carefully so my hip continues to get stronger. When I get to know you, I enjoy my hips being gently massaged. I am always ready for a walk and for playtime but I also like just hanging out and am happy to lie down for a nap if you need to type on the computer or some such thing! I like car rides too.

First Day of Spring and there is still snow!

I think I said that I finished my boarding-training session with flying colors! Now you can see some photos of when I go to follow-up refresher classes. You can also see how the word "down" is interpreted differently by different dogs! Please note that I am in the foreground in the appropriate down position - not rolling around or slouched against the wall!

I have been to my friends house several times since I spent Christmas and New Year with them. When it got really cold I had to wear a pretty embarrasing jacket, as you can see in the photo. However, although I love licking snow I am not that keen on being cold so the jacket was probably a good idea and at least it wasn't pink. I also had minor surgery recently to remove my dew-claws. That went very well. I recuperated for a bit at my friends house and I now can't really remember that I ever had them.

I am now back full time at the shelter now and can entertain visitors if you'd like to visit (hint, hint).

During my last entry I was at boarding school. I worked hard and it took a lot of concentration but I graduated!

I have now learnt lots of manners and feel pretty confident of my grasp of English. I ace "sit" "down" and "stay" and know a "kennel" means that I need to go to my crate. I am still working on coming precisely when called - that's a toughy especially when there are those squirrel critters laughing at me! Also the "heel" concept is OK when I have been out and about a while but early in my walk it is not much fun.

Anyway - I am back at the shleter now so please see my web page at www.themaxfund.org or come by the shelter to meet me in person!

Training boarding school

My news is that I am in a training program at a boarding school in North Denver (http://www.americandogschool.net). I am enjoying my stay here very much. Every one is very kind and I am learning a lot.

For instance, who knew "quiet" means that I should STOP barking? I always thought when people started yelling "quiet" they were joining IN with my barking!

It is nice to know more English - doglish is of course my native language. Well there is lots to do so I will get back to my studies.

More when I graduate!
