Arrival Story:
I was actually looking for breeders of Toy American Eskimo Dogs as my husband has taken to these dogs quite a lot and really wanted one of his own. In my search I found Susie, a breeder who crosses Poms and Eskies! These are 2 well-mannered dogs, and my husband's 2 favorite breeds. Beyond that, I noticed Apollo was a runt and so after talking it over with my husband, we decided to adopt him!

After 2 years I found this again!

Apollo has not experienced any symptoms of his HOD since shortly before his first birthday. He is a very happy, very healthy dog. He loves to go to the dog park and play frisbee. He is okay with other dogs and people when he is there.

Unfortunately Apollo is very aggressive at home and I'm pretty concerned about his disposition. He barks and lunges at people. It's really nerve-wracking. No one has been bit, but he makes me nervous.

Outside of all that he really is a great dog and we love him to bits.

I do have a blog I started recently chronicling things that happen around here pertaining to the Zoo Crew. Everyone is welcome to check it out. Hope you're all enjoying your summer!

Two car rides today. I hate car rides. They're scary! I felt better when we got there and it wasn't the vet! Mommy took me to the store. It was really quiet there, except for the doggies behind the glass! They were running and playing and there was a man in there! Barking makes me nervous sometimes.

When we got home mommy let me have treats! Yum! After my nap we left again! Nope, not the vet this time either. Mommy carried me. Hee hee. This time when we got home mommy gave me a chewy with yummy stuff inside! Yay!

Now I'm tired. Zzz ...

I neglected this blog, as much as I shouldn't have.

Apollo has been very sick the past couple months, experiencing many relapses from an unknown condition. He was in significant amounts of pain and having copious amounts of medications thrown at him to try and get his relapses under control.

Apollo was diagnosed with hypertrophic osteodystrophy. It's a condition normally found in large and giant breeds of dogs, but we all know there are exceptions to every rule. No one knows what actually causes it, though they have ruled out genetics.

After several urgent vet visits, painful x-rays, sedations and everything else we finally figured it out. We also saw a specialist who must have thought I was some sort of idiot. I know Apollo has patellar luxation, I also knew it wasn't the actual problem causing all of the pain and relapses he was experiencing. He insisted. He was wrong, probably lied like the dickens trying to get me to accept $5,200 in surgery bills. No can do.

Apollo has successfully been vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. All without incident. He goes in for his heartworm test next month and after that he is done with vet visits for the next year.
