Wow! It has been such a long time since I have been on this site for Kody's information. He is doing well now, recovery isn't a 100% in fact he is probably never going to walk again. He has had his wheelchair since Memorial Day and he absolutely loves it. It makes it a lot easier for me to take him for walks and to play with his toys.
He has control over his bladder and bowel movements again (for the most part) he occassionally will have an accident but it is nowhere near the 1000+ pee pads I went through in a month and a half time. His spirit is up as it was pre-accident and my little man is still the happiest little guy as he was.

Kody has been having a rough few weeks. On Saturday April 16, 2005 Kody became paralyzed. It started sort of slow, with him first not wanting to go upstairs. Later he would have trouble raising his leg to go to the bathroom, when finally He couldn't stand and toppled over, and that's when he first started to drag his hind legs.
Writing this a week and a day after his surgery is still very difficult. He is lying beside me asleep in his bed, most likely dreaming of running and playing, which at the moment can only be just that: dreams. Kody, like many dachshunds, has a slipped disc; between vertebrae 12 and 13. His surgery went well and now we can only hope and pray that his health returns and that he may walk again.
He won't eat and his medicines constantly make him vomit. He has lost over a pound and a half since the surgery and I, his daddy, have sat many times beside him trying to refrain from crying. We all know that dogs can sense what we are feeling and if I can remain happy and positive than hopefully so can Kody.
I just wanted to share this with everyone. Goodnight.

On December 11th, I attended my first ever Orlando Dachshund meet-up. I had a blast running around chasing and playing with the other dogs. My Daddy followed me around everywhere and was constantly calling my name to check on me. I swear parents can be overwhelming and should relax and allow us kids to have fun. I can't wait for the next meet-up in January when I get to meet and play with more dachshunds.
