Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like.

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy-ride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

Rescued Dog...............

Once I was a lonely dog,
Just looking for a home.
I had no place to go,
No one to call my own.
I wandered up and down the streets,
In rain in heat and snow.
I ate whatever I could find,
I was always on the go.
My skin would itch, my feet were sore,
My body ached with pain.
And no one stopped to give a pat
Or to gently say my name.
I never saw a loving glance,
I was always on the run.
For people thought that hurting me
Was really lots of fun.
And then one day I heard a voice
So gentle, kind and sweet,
And arms so soft reached down to me
And took me off my feet.
"No one again will hurt you
Was whispered in my ear."
"You'll have a home to call your own
Where you will know no fear."
"You will be dry, you will be warm,
You'll have enough to eat."
"And rest assured that when you sleep,
Your dreams will all be sweet."
I was afraid I must admit,
I've lived so long in fear.
I can't remember when I let
A human came so near.
And as she tended to my wounds
And bathed and brushed my fur
She told me about the rescue group
And what it meant to her.
She said, "We are a circle,
A line that never ends".
"And in the center there is you
Protected by new friends".

"And all around you are
The ones that check the pounds,
And those that share their home
After you've been found".
"And all the other folk
Are searching near and far.
"To find the perfect home for you,
Where you can be a star".
She said, "There is a family,
that's waiting patiently,
And pretty soon we'll find them,
Just you wait and see".
"And then they'll join our circle
They'll help to make it grow,
So there'll be room for more like you,
Who have no place to go".
I waited very patiently,
The days they came and went.
Today's the day I thought,
My family will be sent.
Then just when I began to think
It wasn't meant to be,
There were people standing there
Just gazing down at me.
I knew them in a heartbeat,
I could tell they felt it too.
They said, "We have been waiting
For a special dog like you".
Now every night I say a prayer
To all the gods that be.
"Thank you for the life I live
And all you've given me.
But most of all protect the dogs
In the pound and on the street.
And send a Rescue Person
To lift them off their feet".

When I wrote this poem it was inspired by my
Foster Sheltie "Patchie" who, by the way, is in a
Home where he is the light of their eyes. I
Think now that it is more in the way I see the
Rescue efforts of all the people that are doing
Such a great a job all over this country. So I
Wish to dedicate this poem to all of you in
Rescue, the doers, the helpers, the donators of money and/or time and tears.

If Dogs Could Talk....

1. My life is likely to last 10-17 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me, or that I might not understand what it is you want. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food,or any food or water, or I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You will grow old, too.

10. On that sad and difficult last journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so. Tell me goodbye with your presence, no matter how difficult it is for you, remember, it's worse for me....

Take a moment today to be thankful for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without our four legged critters~

Now please pass this on to other pet owners. We get so much from our four legged pets who sadly live shorter lives than we humans. We need to make their lives as well as our own a mutual relationship that has no comparison with other relationships. Your four legged friend will not divorce or leave you. You don't need to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here and now on earth and has four legs!

My Story!

I'm named Jon Jon because I am handsome and debonair. I am also very friendly and love everyone I meet. I have a delightful personality that's very charming! I have cataracts which impairs my vision but once I get the layout down, you would never know I had trouble seeing! I move around my foster moms house with no problems!

MORE:
He also gives hugs. It's the cutest thing! And when he wants attention, he reaches up with his little paw and sort of "scratches" at you on your leg or something. Not hard, but more of a "hey, can you pay attention to me please"? And sometimes when you're petting him, he wraps his little front legs around your arm like he's hugging your arm and just nuzzles his head against you. He's so sweet! And he loves the little squeaker balls that are covered in cloth.
