Arrival Story:
Oh mom's turn hold on.... Hi, my name is Jacque. Ozzie came to live with us in 2001. He was a very handsome puppy. When I first saw him a friend from work called me outside to see this puppy his friend had. When I went out and saw him I was both happy and horriffied. There sitting in the front seat of this car was the most beautiful pup I had seen. But I very quickly noticed his right front leg looked odd. When I asked what had happened I was told that he fell down the attic stairs( the pull down type). They thought he might have dislocated his elbow but in fact I could see that it was clearly broken. When i asked when he fell I was shocked, he had fallen over two weeks prior and had not been taken to a vet. Well long story short, I talked these kids into letting me take him to a vet and get checked out and then bring him back, all at my expense. When they aggreed I took the pup out of their car and put him in my truck locking the door. The kids that had him wanted to pet him goodbye but I said "NO, if you ever want to see him again call the cops." Thus began a real big adventure for a then 6 month old puppy then named "Pimp" 1st came a name change. "Ozzie" is what we thought seemed to fit him, although my husband said we should call him Oozy because he didn't bounce he just kind of oozed on and off things. 2nd came a visit to the vet. After taking several x-rays and doing a hands on exaim, it was determaned he had broke the round end oh his elbow off completely. This injury would require at least 1 if not more surgries and he may end up losing his leg in the end. Well first surgry came and went. He could bare weight and but had no movement at the elbow. Second surgry came and went. The doc removed the pins and a bone spur. He could bare more weight and could move his elbow a little bit. Third surgry came and went. the doc removed all of the screws but one and removed another bone spur. Oz now has 65% of his mobility in his elbow and can run and jump on it. But there is a real concern on where or not pain is going to continue to be a problem. Doc says take him swimming to help with movement. Well we did. Ozzie is a swimming fool. He will get out in the water current, point himself upstream and just swim. He is even participating in Dock Diving events now too. He does Pet Therapy work and has even helped to pilot a reading program in a local school. He built up the muscles so well he no longer has pain and didn't have to lose his leg. Our boy is now 4 years young and is starting to get ready for weight pulling and treadmill work. He still gets to go visiting and loves every bit of it. He has all kinds of new friends and loves making more every day, human and K9.
