Arrival Story:
Our neighbors meant well, they really thought they were ready for a puppy and the kids were looking forward to it. When they brought her home, she was an adorable clutzy bundle of energy. I watched, biting my tongue, as they left her to her own devices every day. Being still a puppy, and this being her second re-home, she was more needy than my dear neighbors anticipated. They took me up on my offer to walk her and check in on her during the day while parents were working and kids were at school. Still, it was not enough. Housebreaking wasn't progressing well, and things were getting chewed up right and left. The last straw came when Babee managed to chew through several "collector's issue" CDs. I begged Hubby to let me try my hand at training her, arguing that it would at least give her a better chance at finding a good home. He finally agreed, as he says, knowing full well she wasn't going anywhere else. I had her housebroken and leash trained within a couple weeks (with only a few accidents). She's proven to be quite a clever girl and has since learned many commands and tricks which she loves to perform for guests.

Bio:
When Babee was about a year old, she did something to her paw during our daily walk. The vet couldn't find the problem, and thought it must just be a sprain or hairline fracture. The paw was wrapped, and we were told to come back in a week. What we didn't realize was that the paw was infected. It swelled in the wrap and cut the circulation. Apparently when this happens, it is merely a matter of hours before the limb is unsalvageable. It broke our hearts, but we proceeded with the amputation. Amazingly, Babee seems to hold no grudges. She is a very happy and capeable little triped. She is so energetic and happy, many folks don't even notice her handicap for several minutes (sometimes even hours!).
