Goodbye Zyp

We said goodbye to Zyp yesterday. Her cancer had grown so that she could no longer swallow. We took her for one last hike at Longhunter State Park, which was her favorite place to go. She got to swim with her friend, Cajun, and had a good time. At the clinic, we threw tennis balls for her until she could run no longer, and then we let her go. She never stopped wagging her tail and was happy to the end.

We will always love and miss our little girl.

Yeah, I can play!

Mom has been taking me to work with her at the vet clinic almost every day now. I am very spoiled. At first I had to stay in a run in the back, but then everyone fell in love with me and so I get to hang out in the big surgery room all day. There is a girl there that loves border collies and gives me treats and throws my toys!

Mom said that they got the biopsy results back. I guess it is still a Liposarcoma. That is a bummer. I was really hoping that someone was wrong the first time and that everything would be ok. But I guess not.

The doctor told mom that I can go back to catching tennis balls and frisbees now!!!!! Hurray! I am so tired of being trapped inside and wanting to play! Maybe mom can take me herding soon!

Zyp

Another surgery

Mom took me to work with her again yesterday. I had to have another surgery. The doctor wanted to remove the new tumor that has popped up. I am very sleepy now because they are giving me some great pain medicine. I will write more later.

Here we go again!

Mom took me to work with her yesterday at the vet's office. She is working at a different place now, so it was all new to me. I didn't know anyone there and people didn't get excited when they saw me like they did at the other place. I tried to look cute and be on my very best behavior, but oh well.

Mom wanted the doctor to look at my neck where they did the surgery because it was very swollen and full of fluid. While they were looking at me, mom found another tumor. I haven't even healed from the last tumor! Mom said that one of the vets there really wants to review my records and treat my cancer. He just can't believe a young dog like me would have this kind of cancer. Mom is very worried because the tumors keep coming faster and faster and grow so quickly. I am having trouble healing after surgery, too. But I am still happy and active and still want to play so bad. I don't really feel sick at all. I know that I am making mom and dad very sad. I snuggle with them whenever I can to try to make them feel better.

Mom said that I may have surgery again tomorrow to get this thing off. I will let you all know what happens.

Mom is no fun!

I just can't understand why mom won't throw my ball for me. I tried all of the other toys in the house, too, but she won't throw any of them. Maybe when I get my staples out she will play with me. She won't even let me get muddy! Mom's are just no fun!

I did overhear that she is looking for a place for me to work some sheep. I don't know what sheep are, but it sounds like fun! Maybe moms aren't so bad after all!

A letter from Mom

Zyp is unable to write today, so mom is covering for her. Two days ago, we found a new mass on Zyp. Yesterday a lemon-sized mass was removed from her neck/chest area. We knew that Zyp's cancer would return, we just thought that it would take longer. The mass was very difficult to remove, as it was wrapped around the major arteries in her neck. The doctor fears that this may be the last mass we will be able to remove as it is becoming more and more difficult to remove them without killing her. The vet suspects that we will find another mass by June.

Luckily, Zyp does not seem too fazed by the operation. Last night I brought her home from the vet and she immediately got her favorite toy and brought it to me to throw. She could not figure out why I would not. She is still so vibrant and enthusiastic, it is hard to believe there is a cancer in her.

Bad Night Last Night

I had a really bad night last night. One of my sisters got into mom's SAR backpack and ate an entire bottle of aspirin, advil, and tylenol PM. Mom was really worried, especially since she did not know who did it. So, just to be on the safe side, mom made us all vomit. It was awful. She poured salt all over my tongue and down my throat. You can bet I was really thirsty this morning!

Well, everyone is doing ok now. I feel much better. Mom and dad felt really bad about making us all sick. I snuggled with her to let her know that it was ok. I still love her.

Mom is being mean again!

Mom took me to work with her again the other day. I used to like going there, but now I hide in the office or surgery room because mom is always doing mean stuff to me. Every time I go she sticks me with a needle or something! Last time she wanted to do a culture of some nasty bumps on my neck. They were like giant zits that kept popping and oozing nasty stuff. Mom was worried because they wouldn't heal and they were where my cancer was.

So now she has been making me take this nasty medicine. I try to spit it out and tell her that unless it is tennis ball flavor, I am not eating it. So she shoves it down my throat! Can you believe it? How rude. I will probably have to start hiding at home now, too.

Well, the culture came back. I guess I have a staph infection from where they poked me at UT. See, I keep telling them to stop poking me. Now look what they have done!

Social

I got to go to Friday Night Social at Dog Day Cafe last night. I love going to Social! I really don't care about the other dogs, I like going because there are tons of people that will THROW THE BALL!!!! The only thing that would make it better would be it there was mud involved....
