In this place, I have no name and no comfort. My cage is so close to the door that I am the first pup people see when they come to the shelter. I'm scared and shaking with anxiety thinking today might be the day, the day where I might get adopted. As the day comes to an end, I still wait at the cage to see if there would be anyone to come to mines and smile to bring me to my forever home...no luck. I don't sleep well at night since the howl of the dogs make me shiver. Maybe, there will be better luck tomorrow.
Today is a new day. I pace around and around my cage and bark alot at the comers in the shelter. I smile and try to charm the people, but there isn't much chance on someone adopting an adult dog like me. I crave the attention of those people, but they won't give me a chance. The day passed, and again, no luck at all.
Its in the morning and a lady comes in and puts a leash on me. She leads me and other dogs to an empty place where I smell a bad stench that makes me shudder. She lets the leashes go and lets us roam around the area. Slowly, she takes a hose and starts to spray the whole room, including us. We're all wet and I feel a sudden drop in my stomach that this isn't what it is. One by one, she brings dogs into a room and I don't get to see them again. Soon, I was the only dog left. The day is close to an end and she puts me back into my cage, still wet.
A New Day! More visitors come and they are looking at the other dogs and puppies except me. Soon, as the shelter was about to close for the day, a last family comes in and looks at me and smiles. Quickly, I stand up and sit near the cage staring at them. They start to talk to a women who volunteers here and I hear her say, " He was going to be sent to sleep today." and I shudder. The family keeps talking with her and I watch anxiously. Then, the family leaves, but then, when I thought all hope was gone, the volunteer lady walks over to my cage a tapes a paper to my cage. ADOPTED!
------------
I have been adopted and I am loving life. My Mommy loves me and cares for me. I don't have to worry about how I will never be loved, because all the love I have is right here. I have to admit, I was quite the spoiled boy. It has been a very long journey, but if the prize is a long life of love and cuddles, its worth it. Be a Hero and Adopt because you can Save a Life.
Even though I am at the rainbow bridge, I will never forget my family who gave me what I needed most, love.
May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young.
May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young.
May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young.
