Time To Go, author unknown

Time for me to go now...
Don't you think the time is right...
To say goodbye to pain filled days,
and sleepless, endless nights?

I didn't want to go at first,
I fought so hard with all my might,
something seemed to draw me in,
a warm and loving light...

It is time to go, it really is...
It is just too hard to stay...
and I tried as best as I could
to hang on for just one more day.

To give you more time to care for me.
and share your love and fears...
I know you're sad and so afraid...
I know because I saw your tears...

I'll not be far, I promise you that...
And hope you'll always know...
My spirit will be so close to you...
wherever you will go.

Thank you for loving me...
You know I love you too...
That's why it's hard to say goodbye,
And to end my life with you...

You held me tight, for just one more time,
And I did hear you say,
Because you love me so much,
you let me go on today.

Nick Celebrated 12th Birthday

Nick made it to his 12th birthday and is still going strong. It has been 2 years and 2 months since his first cancer surgery and treatment. He was very ill during the summer with something unrelated to the cancer but has recovered from that as well. Recently his father and half-brother died, probably from the side effects of taking Flagyl (Metronidazle) for diarrhea. If you are ever prescribed that drug for your pet I would ask for something else...there are other options.

Nick has slowed down some. He waits to be lifted into the car or up on the couch...even tho he can still do both himself. He has been more demanding since his recent illness. I think he realizes life is short and you need to ask for what you want until you get it. Since winter is here he now will not drink water in the house...he want snow and needs to go out many times a day for a few mouthfuls. I am happy to do it for him...as long as he stays around.

Still going strong at 11.

Nick had surgery for the second time in October, 2005. Hopefully most of the anal sac tumor (which had grown back) was removed, however, when the surgeon went into the abdomen she found a string of 10 pearl-like growths that were too near the colon to risk removing. The good news was that the lungs were clear of tumors and blood levels were all normal. Nick had his 11th birthday on Christmas Day and people still mistake him for a puppy. He still likes to go on long walks...longer than we want to sometimes...and is always up for chasing a squirrel if one is in the area. He is really a beautiful, sweet, dear friend. It's taken 11 years to find a dog food he really likes...Innova. He loves the snow...but we don't have much this winter in Minnesota. He won't drink water in the house unless it comes straight from the refrigerator and I tell him ,"Nick, Lake Water"...he want's snow. This means many trips outside through the kitchen door for snow....you have to have a lot of snow to equal a cup of water. We don't mind tho...even if it is 3:30 am...as long as we have him.
