Arrival Story: I had heard about Presa Canarios a few years ago, and when I told my fiance' about the breed, he was just as eager to make one our first dog-child, as I was. We searched for local breeders and when we got to his breeders house,he instantly caught our eye. He had recently had his ears cropped yet he insisted on running into the iron fence. He had also broken his tail,it is now cropped, thus making him not show-worthy (and much cheaper than his littermate) so with a price tag of roughly $1000, he was ours for the taking.
And he's been momma's pride and joy ever since!

Bio: We are from southern Maryland. :~)
We know that the breeder wasn't a kennel, just the owner of a few presas. We have reason to believe he may be kin to Sanders kennels but we aren't sure.

So let me live vicariously through my dog for a second, and use this literary space to vent. Ugh, I'm so frustrated with all the factors that come with presa canarios that I never fit in tha whole society acceptance equation.
So, take into account presas are already a 120+ lb breed, and they can be easily mistaken as a pit bull by some rookies. In our county, and some neighboring, pit bulls are ILLEGAL. Some rental properties even discriminate against dogs resembling these dogs with proper registrations.
Now, I wouldn't be so mad, considering I can understand why some people are apprehensive about living near or renting to people with a BIG dog. But I plan on moving internationally very soon thus the reason I don't need to buy a house here. With a limited area to choose from, the housing options for us are rather low. We NEED a backyard WITH A FENCE, and not many rental properties offer this, that accept a large dog. I mean, never for one second do I regret choosing this breed, but there are some moments where I wished we would've moved a long time ago, when he wasn't 80 lbs at 7 months. Maybe then I coud've lied and said that he was only going to grow to be 50 lbs. :~P
