Arrival Story:
After we lost our first Aussie, Nikkita, of 14 years, we did not think we would want another. Not because we didn't like Aussies, but because Nikkita was such a wonderful dog, we did not think any dog could come close to helping fill the void that we felt after losing Nikkita. All that changed when my husband found Chloe' on the internet. It was late November of 2006 when I found out that I had to have surgery that would put me out of commission for about 6 weeks. My husband thought that I needed someone to keep me company while he was at work so he started to search the internet, just looking at various Aussies. One night he called me into the home office and told me to look at something. When I looked at the computer screen and saw that adorable little face staring back at me, I knew she was meant to be with us. We immediately emailed the lady who had the puppy to let her know we were interested. After a few phone calls, it was done. The pup would be ours and we would pick her up in a week. The only thing was, she was in South Carolina and we live in PA! The owner did agree to meet us in upper NC so that did help. A week later we made the trek to NC and picked up our little "bundle of joy". She was very shy at first and cowered back in her crate for the few couple hours of the ride. However, by the time we returned home, Chloe' was comfortable with me and my husband and snuggled close as we sat on the sofa that first night. That is how our precious Chloe' came into our lives.

Bio:
Chloe' was born September 16, 2006 (two days after my husband's birthday) in South Carolina. She has 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Her mother is a blue merle and her father a black tri. Chloe' began training in herding and agility at the age of 18 months. She loves all animals, especially the barn cats that she likes to chase everywhere! She especially loves playing with her friend Fin, a Border Collie, at the barn. She enjoys going on trail rides with me and my quarter horse Tequilla. She will bring Tequilla in from the pasture when it's time to ride. She is quick to pick up on all commands. She LOVES to swim!! Her first summer with us, she was hesitant to get into the pool, but once she did, we couldn't keep her out. Now she swims and dives all summer long.

No Jada

Last night we were suppose to go see Jada, but things didn't work out so we're going Friday evening. I'll let you know how that goes. Mom and I still went to the barn to see Tequilla though. It was really hot, but I still wanted to play frisbee while mom grazed Tequilla. I only ran after it a few times though and then I said forget it, too hot! Mom was a little upset because Tequilla is lame yet again. We just can't figure out why she keeps coming up lame in the shoulder. The vet can't find anything and can't seem to figure it out either. Poor mom. She was suppose to go on a trail ride Saturday off the farm and now it doesn't look like that will happen:( Other than our trip to the barn, we didn't do much. The heat is just bad again and I'm like mom, I like to hang out in the A/C when it's that hot. Remember, I have a long coat so it's worse for me. I hope everyone is staying cool and all my pals on the coast are staying safe as Hurricane Earl makes his way past you

What's that noise?

As you all know, we went to Juniata this past weekend. It was a beautiful weekend! Friday mom cut the field and I did my usual of following along behind. That evening we had company. Our new friends, and neighbors from up the road, Randy and Sharon, came for dinner and then we all hung out by the fire and chatted. It was really, really late til we went to bed. I mean like 2am late! I was sooooooo tired... yawn :O But little did I know that Saturday I would have plenty of time to catch up on my sleep.

Mom and dad got up really early and left me alone most of the day:( Needless to say I wasn't happy about that! They went to some estate auction thing and no doggies were allowed... HOW RUDE! When mom got home I gave her the what for and let her know I wasn't happy about being left alone in the cabin most of the day. But I must say, she made up for it. We played frisbee and ball in the field for a long time. Then after we took a little rest, mom and I took a walk up the mountain and went to where they buried her dad and grandparent's ashes. We sat for a long time by the tree just enjoying the nice day. We heard a funny noise in the distance. We both looked, but couldn't see anything. A little while later, I smelled something and mom laughed at how high I put my nose in the air trying to catch the smell. I kept trying to figure out what it was and kept looking, but didn't see anything. After about an hour of sitting there, mom decided she would take a few pictures of me then we'd head back down. Mom was snapping away when all of a sudden there was the loudest noise I ever heard! It was a very, very loud snort and it was just beside us. We both jumped and spun around to see what it was. All we saw was a white tail bouncing through the air and the snorting kept going. Mom said it was a huge deer, but she couldn't tell if it was a buck or doe. She told me to be still and not make a sound. I sat like a statue and barely breathed. The snorting continued and sure enough, the deer started back in our direction. I could see a body and it was a BIG deer! But I still couldn't see the head to tell if it was a buck or doe and it must have picked up on something about us because the snorting became louder and more frequent then all of a sudden the deer high-tailed it out of there and it didn't come back. I must say, that was the coolest thing I ever saw! I have seen a lot of deer on trail rides, but never anything like that. The snorting scared me at first, but then I was intrigued by it and liked the fact that I winded the deer before it winded me:) Once mom realized that the deer wasn't coming back, we went back to the cabin and told dad all about it. He said the deer knew we were there, but couldn't see us and was trying to find us by catching our scent and that was what the snorting was all about. I don't know what it was all about, but I know it was cool!

Sunday we got up late and chilled for a while. Then we did a little work outside, but nothing major. It got hot again so none of us really wanted to be outside, including me. I was happy to get in the truck, in the A/C and head home. I love going to the mountains, but when it gets hot, I'm all about the A/C. Sorry, I'm a long-haired dog and unless there is a pool or creek or something nearby for me to cool off in, I'm not liking the heat. We got home early eveing and mom said I was starting to smell like a "dog".. dah mom I am a dog! So she said I needed a bath. I hopped in the shower with mom and I must admit, it felt good. I haven't been swimming or had a bath in a while so it did feel good to get the grime off of me:)

Monday mom said I looked like a hobo and needed clipped... yuck! I hate getting clipped and especially hate getting me nails done. Fortunately mom did it inside since the heat skyrocketed again. At least this time mom didn't do quite the chop job as last time. Her and I had a battle though when it came time for my nails to be done. Yes, they were long and definitely needed done, but I just hate it. Don't ask why, cause I don't know. Mom and I exchanged a lot of dirty looks and not such nice words (yes, I yipped and gave her my piece of mind too), but it got done and now I don't tip tap when I walk. I do feel much better since I'm all prettied up!

Tuesday mom let me go swimming. She didn't get in because she said the water was too cold (I thought it was perfect), but she did sit on the side and throw the frisbee for me and volley the ball with me. I swam for about half an hour then just chilled the rest of the night.

Tonight I have another get together with Jada. We're still trying to make this work. Hopefully Jada's mom has been working with her and she won't continue to try to eat me. I really want to be her friend, but I get kind of stressed and don't know how much longer I can do this. Fortunately, mom can see my stress points and doesn't push me which I'm happy for. I really want it to work because I know mom wants to take Tequilla to Jada's barn and I know I would love all the trails we could ride on, but I just don't know. Keep your paws crossed that we can make this work.

Well, I think I've bored you all long enough. I'm not sure what my holiday weekend has in store. We were suppose to go to Sully this weekend, but now dad has to work so we won't be going:( I'm sure mom will find something to do with me though. I hope everyone has a great long weekend and lots of fun on this final weekend of the summer!

Heading to the mountains again

Nothing has been happening the past few days. Mom has been in and out of the house like a revolving door. She comes in to change clothes from work, then back out again, but without me:( I'm non too happy about that, but she said she had things to do that doggies can't do (like take her mom to the movies and go to PT), but she promises that she spend plenty of time with me in the mountains this weekend. I'm excited about going. She said its just her, dad and I going. I love having company, but it will be nice to have a weekend with just my family too. It's not suppose to be really hot either, at least not until Sunday, but we come home Sunday so it shouldn't be bad. I'll let you all know about my adventures when I return and hope everyone has a good weekend.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, mom found a little lump on my shoulder. It's about the size of a pea, but it doesn't seem to be attached to me. Mom said it feels like one of the bug bites Tequilla gets on her. Mom called the vet and told them about it and they only had emergency care appointments, but didn't seem too worried and just put me in for next week. It doesn't hurt or anything and honestly, I think mom is right, I think I got bit by a nasty bug and it just swelled up. I'll keep you posted on that as well.
