Arrival Story: After we lost our first Aussie, Nikkita, of 14 years, we did not think we would want another. Not because we didn't like Aussies, but because Nikkita was such a wonderful dog, we did not think any dog could come close to helping fill the void that we felt after losing Nikkita. All that changed when my husband found Chloe' on the internet.
It was late November of 2006 when I found out that I had to have surgery that would put me out of commission for about 6 weeks. My husband thought that I needed someone to keep me company while he was at work so he started to search the internet, just looking at various Aussies. One night he called me into the home office and told me to look at something. When I looked at the computer screen and saw that adorable little face staring back at me, I knew she was meant to be with us. We immediately emailed the lady who had the puppy to let her know we were interested. After a few phone calls, it was done. The pup would be ours and we would pick her up in a week. The only thing was, she was in South Carolina and we live in PA! The owner did agree to meet us in upper NC so that did help.
A week later we made the trek to NC and picked up our little "bundle of joy". She was very shy at first and cowered back in her crate for the few couple hours of the ride. However, by the time we returned home, Chloe' was comfortable with me and my husband and snuggled close as we sat on the sofa that first night. That is how our precious Chloe' came into our lives.
Bio: Chloe' was born September 16, 2006 (two days after my husband's birthday) in South Carolina.
She has 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Her mother is a blue merle and her father a black tri.
Chloe' began training in herding and agility at the age of 18 months.
She loves all animals, especially the barn cats that she likes to chase everywhere! She especially loves playing with her friend Fin, a Border Collie, at the barn. She enjoys going on trail rides with me and my quarter horse Tequilla. She will bring Tequilla in from the pasture when it's time to ride. She is quick to pick up on all commands. She LOVES to swim!! Her first summer with us, she was hesitant to get into the pool, but once she did, we couldn't keep her out. Now she swims and dives all summer long.
Emilie came to visit us this past weekend and it was a nice visit until the very end. She came Saturday around lunch time and of course, all she wanted to do with play with us dogs and we were very happy to let her:) She was very good about petting us nice and throwing our toys for us to fetch. Mom kind of limited my running though cause Friday I over did it playing with Echo in the yard and my hips were really bothering me. I know I'm not suppose to do that and sneak to play when mom isn't looking, but I'm here to tell you, I do pay for it! Mom did give me one of my pain pills and I did feel better yesterday.
Anyway, we had a good time with her on Saturday and I was happy she came to visit. Sunday Emi sat with me on the loveseat and petted me for over an hour while we watched TV and mom read books with her. It was really nice to have her sitting there with me, but later in the day when Alison and Jan came to pick her up, for some reason my Emi got mean. She started hitting me on the head and Alison told her to stop, but she kept doing it. Dad grabbed her once and told her to stop and only pet me nice and she said she would. HOWEVER, when she went to pet me again, she wound up and fortunately mom was paying attention and caught Emi's hand mid-air or I would have taken a good wallop! Finally I went downstairs away from her. I don't know why Emi did that cause she's always so nice to me and I love her cause she's like that. But if she ever acts like that again, I'm outta there and I know if mom and dad are around, they won't allow it.
As far as what I have going on this week, it's not much. We have our visit to Manor Care, but other than that, it's pretty quite. Hopefully no more snow for this winter and spring is on the way! I'm about sick of being in the house cause of snow or cold:( At least we didn't get the snow they thought we would yesterday, but my thoughts go out to all those who did get snow. I hope you are safe and warm and hang in there, spring is coming soon!
After a pretty boring week, I've had a pretty exciting last couple of days. First, I'd like to let everyone know that mom's search group (Midsar) did locate the missing man. As expected, he passed away, but at least he was found and the family can have closure.
Now onto happier stuff. As tired as mom was when she got home Saturday, her and dad did still take us for a walk. It was just around the block since that is about as far as I can go with my hip, but it was a beautiful day, like springtime, and it was really nice to be outside to enjoy it:)
Sunday was a busy day. When mom got home from church we went to visit grandma. From there we stopped at the barn, but didn't get out cause Jada was outside and if you remember, Jada hates all dogs and wants to eat us! I had NO problem waiting for mom in the car. She wasn't long though so it wasn't bad. After the barn we hung outside with mom while she cleaned the inside of her car. Then Barb came and we went for a visit to Country Meadows. It was nice to see everyone since we haven't been there since before Christmas. Needless to say, they were all happy to see us too:) When we were done at CM, mom took her car to the drive-thru car wash. Now I've been through one of these things already, but I don't think Echo was cause she was all eyes and her head whipped around like crazy trying to see what all was going on. She was really funny. Me, I just laid on the backseat and chilled. I knew what was up and it didn't bother me one bit.
Monday was a big day cause we had to go to the vet to have our teeth cleaned. Yep, once a year we get them done and all three of us go at the same time. Usually we are out by lunch, but this time our cat Gizmo had a cavity and needed to be put under so the vet could take care of it. Well that meant we were all stuck at the vet until after 3pm. Dad finally picked us up around 4pm and we were never so happy to go home! Not because we don't like the people, we just don't like the vet experience and having teeth done is no different. At least this time Echo hung with me in my crate instead of roaming around the back like usual.
So that catches you up on what's been going on around here. We are home this weekend cause our Emilie is coming Saturday to spend the night and I can't wait! We haven't seen her since before Christmas and we really miss her. I'm sure I'll have plenty to tell you about her visit with us so check back after the weekend for more!
Mom was very happy to hear that I do NOT have a UTI:) However, she was a little upset at me because once realizing that it was not physical causing me to potty on the floor, she can't figure out why I'm doing it since I never did anything like this before. It's true, I never pottied in the house unless I was sick, but for some reason, even unknown to me, I've been doing it the past week. Maybe cause we're not getting out much, or maybe cause I want to get Echo in trouble or who knows why we do some of the things we do? Dad wasn't happy either and said that I better stop cause next time I'll get scolded just like Gizmo and instead of Echo being in a crate it will be me. NO!!! I hate the crate and haven't been in one for years and I don't want to start now, but mom said if I don't stop that's exactly what's going to happen. She also caught me going into Echo's crate last night and eating her food. She just can't figure out what has come over me and the bad behavior lately. It's not like I'm jealous that she's doing stuff with Echo and not me cause she takes us both everywhere and I'm only home one time a month when Echo goes to search training. Plus, mom has really been giving me more attention and cuddling with me more cause she knows my hip has been bothering me. But I guess I better stop misbehaving or else!
On a better note, last night we had our visit to Manor Care and it was a very nice one. Everyone was in good spirits and seemed to be doing very well. We visited with some people in the rec area where they were playing bingo then went to our normal rooms. Lois is doing well, but was very sick last week. It sounded like she had the same thing mom had, but poor Lois had to go to the hospital for a couple days. I guess being older you need to be in the hospital just in case, but I'm really glad she's okay now:) We gave Roy a show and were rough housing in his room a little. He loves to watch us play like that, but mom made us stop when we ran into his wheelchair pretty hard...sorry Roy!
Today it was raining when mom went to work and then the temps dropped and it turned to ice. Mom got to work okay, but then she ended up locking herself out of the office when she went to put the ice melt on the sidewalk. Poor mom was stuck outside with no jacket, no boots, and no cell phone to call her boss to come open the door. After about 20 minutes, the attorney next to them finally arrived and she was able to go in their office to warm up and call her boss. Mom said she was wet and very cold, but learned her lesson and will never walk out the door without keys in hand again! Poor mom, her day did not start out too good and it's all cause of this stupid weather. Will it ever stop!?!?!?
