Arrival Story: Taking Angus home was an impulsive decision, although my husband and I decided to buy a pet we did not intend to take one home when we did. We were walking around this pet store complex when my eye was caught by the sweetest and gentlest gaze I had ever seen. We decided to go in the shop to inquire after him and one of the caretakers offered to let me carry him. 2 of his brothers were there too, they were very hyper and noisy, begging to be paid attention to but it was the quiet little guy who struck our hearts. I was reluctant to return him in his cage but was intent on doing so until another couple walked into the store interested in purchasing him. When I realized that he would be taken away from me, we made a quick decision to take him home.
Bio: He is the quirkiest canine I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. When my husband or I scold him, he burrows his head under a pillow [or whatever is available] but leaves the rest of his body exposed, much like an ostrich. Like a flamingo, he occasionally rests 1/2 of his body and then switches to the other side when the active one gets tired [i.e; right eye shut with right front leg lifted off floor]. He likes to rub his body against our legs and he frequently curls his paws and scratches us like a cat [he stretches like one too]. He also has several "modes". His "snoop dawg" mode usually happens in the car, with the air conditioning full blast on him and hip-hop music in the background [his choice, emo music makes him howl]. His "sealboy" mode is usually at home, when he's stretched out on the floor and there's mucho belly spillage on his sides. Inevitably the "rin tin tin" mode gets activated and he just starts running around the place with an enthusiasm that would rival an obedience exercise competitor. His chew toys never last him very long so his favorites are the mainstays like tennis balls, plastic bottles, slippers, and my wrist. Fortunately, I've weaned him off electrical appliances. He loathes LC Scour [anti-diuretic meds]and Gatorade with a passion but detests his stroller even more. We're sure he's tone deaf because he adores it when I sing him Disney songs to put him to sleep. He's very good with people and enjoys all the gratuitous rubs he gets from strangers when we take him out with us. He is especially good with children and sits very still when they approach him to pet. His favorite place to interact with other dogs and exercise is at a nice park within a fantastic commercial complex which is highly convenient for me. He's not much of a barker, usually he just whines when he wants something. He refuses to drink water unless it's ice cold and he's become the unofficial mascot of Starbucks in my neighborhood because he's there so often. Angus is all of those things and much, much, more.

I've Been On Dogster Since:
So much has happened since my last entry, not even 4 months, it's not even funny. Where to begin...
Chronologically speaking:
I turned 1 last April 1.
Attended a dog seminar last April 31.
Attended yet another dog seminar last May 26.
Went on a day trip with my new furry buddies last June 7.
Joined a dog walking group last June 12. We walk three times a week.
Celebrated the first anniversary of my Forever Home Day last June 13.
Attended a Doggy Event last June 14 and won BIG (a bring me game and photo contest).
Went on another road trip last June 20.
Underwent surgery to correct my Entropion eye on July 1.
Lost the family jewels on the same day as eye surgery.
Acquired a new big sister on July 12. Mom and Pop rescued a poor ol' Chocolate Labrador from a life of repetitive drudgery.
Those are just the highlights. A lot more has happened in between the aforementioned events but that's pretty much all I can remember at the moment. You know what they say, an elephant never forgets. Well, I'm a beagle.
Hey! Whaddya know, it's chow time, so, ciao for now.
Now that I'm nearly one (and destroyed four sets of shoes and 1 stroller in 10 months) Mom and Dad decided to let me walk outside without shoes on. It was liberating! I love the feel of grass beneath my paws. I've gone on 3 walks bare-pawed so far and the humans are relieved I didn't get sick. I'm so happy. The other dogs at the park won't make fun of me anymore.
I've also been transitioned to adult food successfully. The past week I have been on Royal Canin Medium Adult and I love it! The cereal is huge though so it takes longer for me to chew before I can swallow the stuff. My parents are happy about that too cos it looks like I won't be vomiting for failing to chew properly anytime soon.
8:30-9:30 pm last saturday was Earth Hour. Mom switched off all our lights and unplugged all electrical devices/appliances. I sat by the window looking outside trying to catch whatever breeze that rolls in as it was very hot. I didn't mind very much though because it was for a good cause. Mom tried to take my picture in the dark but, because I hate being photographed, I wouldn't stay still. Instead she took a picture of a lit match and uploaded to Earth Hour's Flickr group to cast our vote.
The last 3 Sundays we've been going on walks at our favorite place. We even took cousin Nana (a feisty Lhasa Apso) along with us the past two times. Nana usually isn't very nice to me when we come and visit but he's cool when we're at walks. I have regular play dates now with the pups I met last March 15. The ones I see most often are the huskies Raja, Qilaq, Aiden, and Sky & Wolf and Duchess, the black pug Vladimir, the chow chow Mocha, and the poodle Cosmo. My mom chats with their humans while we pups play but we usually spend most of our time with the Husky group who goes on dog walks together. I'm glad the 'rents lets me socialize with other dogs now. Hopefully my lucky streak continues.
What a great day today was. Exhausting, but lovely all the same.
Aunties Toni and Cathy passed by this afternoon, played with me and fed me a lot of treats. I don't see them nearly enough so I always have a great time when they're around. They brought with them another human playmate, Ice. I like her very much too.
We went to a restaurant with Mom's family for dinner but the place wouldn't let me in (grrrr) so my Manny (male nanny) and I went for an invigorating walk around the commercial complex and I made a lot of new friends, both canine and human.
After dinner Mom, Dad, my Manny, and I moved to my favorite place ever for coffee, dessert, and more socialization. The minute we got there I met a nice 5 month old lemon beagle named Mindy. She belongs to a most precocious little boy who had so much questions for my mommy and daddy. I encountered and sniffed a few more dogs (a bichon frise, 3 shi tzus, 2 chow chows, a yorkie, 2 poodles, a schnauzer, a black lab) before I met 4 of the nicest and biggest Siberian Huskies I've ever encountered. Sky, Phoenix, Rajah, and Keela belong to a group of friends who were most eager to chat with my mom and let me get to know their furry buddies. When the group had to go I met a 3 and a half month old American Bulldog named Kevin. Kevin was a frisky one. He liked to play rough so I obliged and romped with him for about 30 minutes. Kevin and I quickly became bestfriends, that is, until a 6 month old Tri-Color Beagle came my way. His name is Snowpy. Playing with Snowpy made Kevin jealous. Mom now calls me a faithless hound. After playing with Snowpy, I played with two more huskies (a female named Bella and a male whose name I forgot) and a dachshund named Sassy. Their mommies and daddies chatted with my mommy while I romped around with my new friends. By this time, it's been 3 hours of non stop play. Mom and Dad decided it was time to go and on our way out, we met the loveliest English Bulldog puppy we have ever seen. Her name is Maddy. Her mom and my mom totally hit it off. The mommies let us play while they chatted about us while our daddies talked shop about another shared passion of theirs, photography(!).
Mom and Dad frequently take me out to socialize with other dogs but I have never met and played with so many until today. They promise to take me back on another sunday (we always go out on weekdays) so I can have this much fun again. Life is good.
