Who needs Poker

Since we lost my grandmother to cancer in January of this year grandpa moved to Georgia from Ohio. When he first came he lived with us until he could find a suitable place to live. I loved having him here because he spent the entire day with us. While mom and dad were at work we would get to run in the backyard for hours, eat treats and take naps with grandpa.

Grandpa found his own place and moved in early June. I have really missed him and I understand that he misses us as well. I heard him telling mom that we have been great therapy for his healing heart. When grandpa started staying at his new place he would still come over during the day and hang out with us (mom & dad gave him a key). We have regular routines as far as he comes over every day around noon and stays through dinner, he comes over on Sunday's to hang out and go to dinner with mom, dad, my human brother and my human sister, AND... Tuesday's are "sleep over" nights for us!!! Grandpa always brings an overnight bag on Tuesdays and I refuse to go to bed with mom and dad on that evening (we all have our own dog beds in mom & dad's room) because I like to sleep in the bed with grandpa.

Recently the "55 and older" community where grandpa is living started having Poker games on Tuesday evening. So, as you can guess, I have missed our bedtime on Tuesday. It made me very mopey and mom told grandpa how sad i get at night. All of a sudden, yesterday (A TUESDAY) grandpa opened the door while mom and dad were at work! Turns out he missed me too! He said that I was more important than Poker!!! Ok, my sister's are counted in on this whole "more important" thing. Last night was awesome! I hope iI did'nt take too much of his bed space:-) I LOVE GRANDPA!

Grandpa

I am very excited today because it is Monday and my grandpa will be over tomorrow to spend the night with me (ok, us!). I wanted everyone to know how great grandpa is so I asked mom to put a family picture up on our site. The picture I chose was one with me, grandpa, and my sisters: Austin, Ginger and Tina. I realize that grandpa is holding a stuffed "Alf" in his lap but that it b/c he was grandma's favorite character. She passed away this past January. Besides Alf, I am obvously his favorite. See how closely he has me to his left? I love him sooo much.

I like football season as well b/c grandpa comes over every Saturday to watch Ohio State with my dad. Apparently grandpa can not get the same channel on his tv at his place. If there ever comes a time when it is available to him, I will have to make a call to D-TV. Not gonna take my time w/Grandpa away!

The kittens are making me crazy!

So mom and dad managed to catch three of the stray kittens which have now migrated from the crawl space under our house to under our front porch. I sat in the window and watched in amazement as dad and mom used food and hand/eye communication to lure the kittens out. Mom would grab each one by the back of their neck and quicly put them in a box b/c they were a little mean:-(

They eventually had to stop b/c the mom cat came over from her house and started hissing at them. I did not like her for being mean to my mom and dad! She has no idea what great parents they are. However, I can see her side too b/c she is trying to be a good mommy too.

Anywho, as you may know from my previous diary entries, grandpa spends Tuesday evening with us and I heard him call mom at work yesterday saying that he saw FOUR more kittens when he pulled up to the house. FOUR MORE!

Mom called the pound and they said they were out of cages to catch them and the "no good" neighbor who owns the mama cat will not help so mom and dad are going to try again this weekend.

I hope they catch them soon b/c they are driving me crazy. I can't seem to get my face out of the window. I sit there all day, drooling on the window just waiting for a glimpse of the kitties. The living room window looks like mommy's car windows! Not to mention, every time I have a "sighting" I begin barking like crazy which confuses my sister's and they start barking at "they don't know what".

Yesterday while mom was cooking dinner for dad and grandpa, all the babies came out and played in the front yard. THAT MADE ME REALLY CRAZY. I hope mom catches all of them this weekend so everyone can get some sleep. Oh, and so mom can clean the front window:)

Karaoke

Well, I haven't made an entry in my diary since September b/c we have been really busy getting mom, dad and grandpa ready for Karaoke night at grandpa's (55 and older) apartments.

Grandpa and mom practiced a bunch of songs even though they were not in the competition. I think they just like to sing. We watched and enjoyed the songs and the laughter shared between our human family. Mom was really good at Blue Suede Shoes. She even danced a little:-) Grandpa sang Proud to be an Okee from Muskogee and he even sang directly to us. So much fun. Dad doesn't sing. He's really not into making an @$$ of himself. He leaves that to mom and grandpa.

The Karaoke party was Friday evening, September 26th and I overheard mom and dad talking about it the next day. Seems that everyone at grandpa's apartments loved the party. People brought lots of food and almost everyone got up and sang a song. Some of the older people got out of there chairs to dance a little. Wish I could have been there but I jump on people and nip when I get really excited. Maybe when I calm down a little I can do Karaoke too!

Shout out to my feline brother who has been sick. Groucho, I know you really hate all the diabetic food and taking all your medicine but I want you to know that mommy only does such things b/c she loves us. It actually makes us feel better in the long run. Remember last Saturday when mom took me and Ginger to the vet. We weren't even due for our vaccines!! She had to take us b/c we have seasonal allergies (makes our skin itch really bad) and we have to go get a SHOT! I only went because I know it breaks mommy's heart to see me itch all the time. She loves us.

Who was here first???

Last night mommy and daddy (along with grandpa) gathered in the living room to watch the new Raiders of the Lost Ark movie. Mom was on the love seat giving special love to my feline brother Groucho b/c he is sick and needs extra attention. Once Groucho had had enough and jumped down I decided I needed a little attention so I got on the love seat with mommy. She was rubbing my ears, my belly, my nose...Ahhhh...it was soo nice - UNTIL - My little sister Tina jumped up on the back of the love seat and tried to weasel her way in between mom and me. OK! I was here first! Mommy did all she could to ignore Tina. Dad tried to call Tina over to his couch and even grandpa tried to lure Tina away but she would not leave. I think she is jealous of my time with mommy. I get so little time with her since there are 5 of us furry family members in the house. I am not saying she doesn’t give me love, I am just saying I would like it 24/7. Any less is just not acceptable.

Mom held out and continued to rub me until Tina finally gave up and jumped down. Whew, we won that battle. I hope the next time we get to cuddle Tina is in the back yard! I was here first!!!!

Soo Busted!

Mommy, daddy and grandpa have been sick which has really cut into my "love time"! Grandpa hasn't even spent the night with me in TWO WEEKS! What's a dog to do?? Well, I decided to entertain myself by trying to help mommy with some of the household chores.

First things first we need to take the trash out because it is getting really full of {yummy} human left overs. Man...this is harder than it looks. I need to figure out how to open the dog proof lid...ok, got that done. Now I need to figure out how to get the trash from the can and out the front door. My sister Austin is good at opening doors so she can handle that part. Looks like I need to take things out one by one since the bag is too heavy for me to lift out. You know, I just had a genius idea!!!! I can eat the human left overs making it easier to get all the rest of the trash out the door. I am SOOO SMART! Mommy will be so proud of me!

Ok, I have managed to eat the human left overs (with a lot of help from my furry family) and now I need to get everything to the front door. Not a problem. WHAT?? Austin can't get the front door open when it is locked???? OH NO! We need to try to eat all of this trash so mommy doesn't come home to a mess!

Well, we managed to shred everything to little bitty pieces and spread it throughout the house so mommy won't notice. She will be soo proud of me for helping with the chores! I can't wait to see the look on her face!!!

Must rest now...chores are tiring.

Thanksgiving...the good and the bad

I am soo excited about the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday. You see, Thanksgiving is when mommy and daddy cook a lot of food, give some to us and we show our appreciation and Thanks them for Giving!

However, I am a little conflicted about how I feel this year. I am definately into the tradition of eating the food until I can't breathe but there is a problem this year...Grandpa is going to Florida to visit daddy's sister for Thanksgiving and that really bothers me. We really like to spend time together.

He is such a great grandpa! Even when I ate daddy's expensive Oakley sunglasses the other day Grandpa understood. He knows I have light sensitivity but couldn't figure out how to get them on. He now calls me Hollywood. I luv it. Can you see how I need him to be here??

Oh well, I guess we will always have Christmas. Maybe we can get a new dog bed big enough for me and grandpa! That would be GREAT!

Here in this house

Here in this house ......

I will never know the loneliness I hear in the barks of the other dogs out there.

I can sleep soundly, assured that when I wake my world will not have changed.

I will never know hunger, or the fear of not knowing if I'll eat.

I will not shiver in the cold, or grow weary from the heat.

I will feel the sun's heat, and the rain's coolness,
and be allowed to smell all that can reach my nose.

My fur will shine, and never be dirty or matted.

Here in this house.....

There will be an effort to communicate with me on my level.

I will be talked to and, even if I don't understand, I can enjoy the warmth of the words.

I will be given a name so that I may know who I am among so many.

My name will be used in joy, and I will love the sound of it!

Here in this house ......

I will never be a substitute for anything I am not.

I will never be used to improve peoples' image of themselves.

I will be loved because I am who I am, not someone's idea of who I should be.

I will never suffer for someone's anger, impatience, or stupidity.

I will be taught all the things I need to know to be loved by all.

If I do not learn my lessons well, they will look to my teacher for blame.

Here in this house ......

I can trust arms that hold, hands that touch..

Knowing that, no matter what they do, they do it for the good of me.

If I am ill, I will be doctored.'

If scared, I will be calmed.

If sad, I will be cheered.

No matter what I look like, I will be considered beautiful and thought to be of value.

I will never be cast out because I am too old, too ill, too unruly, or not cute enough.

My life is a responsibility, and not an afterthought.

I will learn that humans can almost, sometimes, be as kind and fair as dogs.

I will belong.

I will be home.

What's up with the new kid?

As we all know, Thanksgiving is sooo awesome and we get to eat things that we haven't had a chance to even smell all year. My sisters Ginger and Austin both know (as well as myself) that mommy cooks all day and then when the other humans show up we are supposed to start looking pitiful in order to get some trukey, etc. My newest sister Tina was not aware of said routine so she was under mom's feet all day in the kitchen hoping for a little something. I tried to tell her the routine but she was certain that she would be given something ahead of time. She really tried to turn on the charm with her cute sad eyes and her ears folded back but it didn't work. The only thing that hit the floor was a carrot (by accident) and no one was having anything to do with that!

See, Tina was abused by her former owner and lived in a shelter/rescue from that point forward. She has never had this kind of holiday nor has she ever had a family so I can understand her excitement. I cut her some slack. And...when it came time for the four of us to team up for treats I showed her the ropes.

I think she was appreciative but it was hard to hear the "thanks" over her "snoring" after dinner:--) Happy Thanksgiving to my new little sister! Oh yeah, I forgot to tell her about CHRISTMAS!!! Whoo Hoo!

Grandpaw's Birthday

Sooo much fun! Mommy and I have been planning a surprise birthday party for grandpaw all week and it has been kinda tricky since he is usually at our house or at his apartment (55 & oder community). Mommy and I ordered the cake and got all the party goodies together but when we tried to drop them off with one of grandpaw's friends on Tuesday around mom's lunch time he was still there so we had to hide everything at mom's office for the day and take it over there after mommy got off work b/c Grandpaw was at our house by then. He comes to visit us all the time while mom and dad are at work. Soo fun!

Anyway, our plan was to have Grandpaw come over for mom and dad to take him out for a birthday dinner and then his friends and grandchildren (my human brother and sister) would get everything ready while we eat and then head over to the surprise party.

Mom told me that Grandpaw was very concerned about them not coming directly home after dinner b/c he was worried about us eating at our regularly scheduled time so mommy called our good friend and neighbor (aka petsitter) John to come over and feed us. Grandpaw felt better about that.

Grandpaw noticed mommy and daddy were driving all the way to his apartment and he thought they went in (they have a key) and set up a little surprise for him in his apartment. He was sooo surprised and happy when he walked into the dark dining hall and the lights came on with all of his friends singing Happy Birthday. Mom said he even teared up a little. I wish I could have been there but it's ok. He came back home and I got to sleep with him all night for his Birthday. That was like a present for me:--)

Happy Birthday Grandpaw! I wuv you!
