Feeling good for now...

Hey pup pals. I am actually feeling pretty good. I think it's the pain meds, but, it could just be all the extra loving I am getting from Mom and Dad. Mommy is still thinking about what to do. She is literally having a panic attack thinking about having a second opinion as we have had our wonderful vet for soooooooooooo many years and he is fabulous. However, she fears the idea of another surgery that might not be necessary.

For those that have known me a while, you know I had another (similar) surgery without a "fine needle aspiration" prior and it turned out to be fat. Mommy doesn't want to put me through another surgery which may be unnecessary. However, she struggles with the decision because she doesn't want our Vet to think we don't love him. He would know about it becaus we have to ask for a copy of the file. Mommy keeps all the receipts but, the file as all the detailed notes.

So, at the moment, Mom and I are thinking it over.

Love to all of you!

Make sure you keeping upping the ante for taking the pain meds. First pain med -- accept with a was of cheese. But by day three or four, you should be insisting on a whole hot dog.

Braunie, lemme tell you something, dear pal: no good doctor (human or animal) would ever be angry with a patient for seeking a second opinion. Trust me. I don't want your mommy to worry AT ALL about getting a second opinion. Just tell your doctor that you want to be sure, yada, yada, yada. If your vet is as wonderful as you say - and I'm sure he is- he will probably not only NOT be offended, but offer suggestions for other vets for the second opinion.
Getting a second opinion is a routine part of medical care. Deep breath. No worries.
Now, listen to Pennie about upping the ante for the pain meds - she is brilliant!

We agree with Maxwell. A second opinion is in order. I know people who have even gotten third opinions. Don't want surgery if its unnecessary. I don't think your vet would be upset at all.

I think a second opinion is always good, too. Don't worry about upsetting the vet. Your health is what's important!

There is also another approach... and yes .. a 2nd opinion is a no harm situ... but... you could simply ask your vet.. who your trust.. for a fine needle aspiration !

Ask... say you what to be sure before sanctioning another surgery. SAY you would like to try that 1st.

They really cant say no without a good clinical reason.....

If they do... then go for a 2nd opinion.

This way you keep all avenues open... you maybe keep the vet you trust too.

HUGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

You do have a right to ASK.

No good doctor-- human or animal-- should be offended by someone getting a second opinion...

My Momma sez she'd get one...

you got some great suggestions here!
i'm sorry to hear of your bump, Braun.
it is tricky working with the dr. sometimes not to offend them but it's really all in OUR heads! the doctors aren't worried at all by our questions or asking for a second opinion.
i do like Flicka's suggestion if no harm comes from delaying an operation. it seems like a win/win solution. i've got a feeling it's another fatty blob like your last one Braun, so try not to worry too much.
that is a lot of money to come up with for the surgery..we worry we wouldn't have cash for operations too should something happen. i do have a cataract behind one of my eyes but it doesn't need surgery..yet or (hopefully) never..but sometimes mommy worries..
we are keeping you in our prayers, buddy!

Just like all the other pups are saying there is nothing wrong with a second and sometimes a third opinion. My Mom took me to 3 different vets for opinions and no one was upset at all. Like your Mom she worried herself silly but dog bless her she gathered all the info and did a ton of research. Then she weighed all of that against my quality of life and happinness. She chose the holistic route and has no regrets. No one knows you better than your Mom and we know she will follow her heart and gut and do what is best for you. We are thinking about you pal and sending tons of POTP your way.

Well, mom did ask our vet about an asipration but he gave her two reasons why he doesn't do that. Mom was so upset that she barely remembers the first one but the second was, if it is cancer and he aspirates it there is a chance it would spread. Now we don’t know if that is logical or not but, it sounded like it made sense. Mom has already booked my second opinion for tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. We will let ya’ll know how it goes. Thanks for all the love, support and helpful comments.
