Arrival Story: Charlie was 6 months old when he became part of our family, in January 2007. Charlie sat in "the nest"-- his pillow-- and would not move. We carried him outside to use the bathroom... literally, he would not move. He had been rescued two months earlier by a friend on Christmas Eve. She left him with us in January while she went on vacation. By the time she returned, we could not part with him (nor he with us)--my cold-hearted Dad had become especially fond of HIS "Charles in Charge". So she gave him to us. We agreed to keep him until I got my service dog (Flash was not with me yet.) He was so timid, we enrolled him in an obedience class at Flash's school, Circle Tail Inc. To make a long story short, even after we got Flash, we could not part with Charlie-- he had wet-nosed his way into our hearts...We found out that Charlie had, not only been in a puppy mill, he had been abused (not by my friend). His back, front legs, and jaw had all been broken, he had been burned with cigarettes, and had a really bad case of mites. He was also underweight. At first, we thought he was brain damaged, since he didn't even move for liver treats. He spent the first week in "the nest". After week 1, he began to eat and would run to the nest if we moved him. After a month, he played with Ivy, who put up with him very well for an old girl! When Flash came home with me for good, Charlie came even further out of his shell. Their favorite game is tug-of-war-- with my socks, of course! To this day he is reluctant to leave the house without Ivy or Flash. Charlie's rehab is going well, though he still has a long way to go. My dad has claimed him as his dog, and loves him dearly. I even caught him singing lullabies to Charlie!
