Arrival Story:
We first laid eyes on Ritz at a greyhound meet and greet at our local pet store. We were wanting a dog and I had been enamored with greyhounds since learning about the possibility of adopting retired racers as pets. Honestly, we just went to look at the greyhounds that day and let the kids pet them. Ritz was hiding behind two other greyhounds we were petting. He shyly stuck his head through as if to say, "Can you please scratch my ears, too?" His beautiful eyes and his meekness immediately won us over. After filling out the necessary adoption application and having our references checked out, Ritz was ours two weeks later! He has adapted very well to the good life of retirement in a family home. The kids and I adore him and I'm positive he feels the same about us. We couldn't wish for a sweeter, more gentle, better behaved dog. He's the perfect dog for us!

Bio:
Ritz was born on St. Patrick's Day. His geneology can be traced back to the 1800s. He raced in Arkansas and in Alabama. Ritz, blessing our lives for a rich 9.5 years after his racing career, was put to sleep on September 20, 2011. At 13.5 years of age his long years, arthritis, gum disease, weakness, and inability to walk were robbing him of his quality of life. It was a hard decision to reach, but it was the right one. The precious memories we have of him will continue to bring us joy. He really was THE best dog imaginable.
