Arrival Story:
We originally got Rocky from a single Mom. She had moved to a place without a fence and did not like chaining him up in the yard. Before she got him, he was with a man who abused him so much that he would not go near men or would growl and bark whenever a man was any where around. Rocky is no longer like that with men. He loves my hubby and if hubby goes anyplace Rocky follows him everywhere. If fact the woman from whom we received Rocky came to visit a few weeks after he was here. Rocky was glad to see her. He jumped up in the chair with her. When my hubby came into the room, Rocky wined and looked at her, then at hubby, then her, then hubby. She said "Go see him, Rocky, It's ok". Rocky jumped down, ran over to hubby and jumped in his lap, got his morning rubdown then, jumped down and went back to his old mom for a bit. She told us she was amazed. She had never seen him act that way with a man. They had tried everything. All hubby did was let Rocky come to him on his own. Rocky is the most lovable dog I have ever seen. He will sit in your lap and lay his head on your chest and push as if hugging you. You wrap your arms around him and he is all mush. He loves it. Rocky looks like a giant dachshund. His legs and chest area are that of a Bassett Hound. The rest of him looks just exactly like a Rhodesian Ridgeback, just with very short legs. He is a beautiful, lovable, dog.

We are unable to take care of him properly as we are both in wheelchairs now. He does not like to walk with the wheelchairs with his leash on, as we get all tangled up. Rocky is a joy to be around. He loves to be around older kids. He will play some with other dogs. But in another home he would better if he were an only pet. Rocky is very jealous. He wants his family to himself. He will push his weight around, using his body to remove the smaller dogs so he can play or get the petting. He doesn't like cats, or any of the critters in the trees here. We love him so much but just have to buckle down and this time really let him go.We have put it off far to long. His happiness is what really matters, not ours. Great watch dog. He is fixed, uses a dog door, and will let you know if he wants to go out the regular door. He will run off if given the chance but will stop when you call his name firmly.

Forums Motto:
Rock-a-do, , RockStar

Rocky weighs 55 to 60 pounds. He will not get any bigger. He howls or bays if he wants something. We just put in a dog door. He already knew about dog doors. But he still asks to go out. We have to walk him to the laundry room and he runs out the dog door. He is so funny.

My name is Rocky. I have lived with my foster parents for almost two years. They found me on Freecycle (It is a place for internet ads in your own areas). My Mom at the time could not keep me anymore because she had to move to a place with out a yard. I was chained up all day outside. That Mom got me from a very, mean, man. He beat me all the time. His favorite was to kick me around and toss me out the door. I hated men, all men.

Once my now Mommy got me I was scared. We rode in a car for about 30 miles. She petted me and talked real nice to me all the way home. I started to like her by the time we got there. I found a smaller dog to play with. When I got into the house I stopped dead in my tracks. There was a man. Mom said this is Dad you can talk to him when ever you feel like it Rocky. She went and sat in her chair. Her little dog jumped up along side of her. Mom had me come up on the big footstool. She petted me and loved on me all evening while we watched TV.

Dad is the one who feeds us. I stayed away from him for a few days. Then one day I got a little too close and he reached down and scratch my ears. He said," How you doing there Rocky?" He was so nice to me. Now we are real good friends. I trust all men now. Well at least I can tell who is good and who is bad. Our neighbor is still afraid of me. I get too excited when he comes over and that scares him. hehe.

Anyway now we have another problem. Mom and Dad's disabilities have gotten worse. They can no longer walk me. I only have the backyard in which to run around in. There is lots of room. But it is boring. I want someone to play with.

I would like to find a family who has only me for a pet. I like kids. I have lives with other dogs. We don't get along real well. I don't like cats, birds, or those little bushy tailed critters that eat nuts and run up the trees and laugh at me. If I could only catch one I show him not to laugh at me. He is too fast.

I am really happy here. Mom is going to cry a lot. But she knows that it is best for me to go where I can be happy.

Rocky is 4 yrs, up on shots, fixed, dachshund mix, standard size, reddish color, does not drag the ground. He is the most lovable furbaby I have ever had. He would rather sit in your lap and cuddle that to eat. Eating it what he does best.

We live in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Can travel some. Contact me and we can decide from there.
