I came to the realization that I was finally ready to save a dog's life, so I was looking at my local shelter's website daily. One day I came home from work and saw five Catahoula puppies available for adoption, and the very next day, I came home with the most unique looking of them all. I knew she was the right one for me when she crawled into my lap and fell asleep in my arms...tongue out and all. :)

Bio:
I'm named for my mom's favorite holiday (and the weekend on which she adopted me!). Too bad I can't say I was "born on the Fourth of July," but I think "adopted on the Fourth of July" is all the more special.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Did you all have a great holiday? I sure did, and what's even better, mom has this whole week off from work!

First, I'll rattle off my list of Christmas loot. For Christmas Eve, I opened a fun little stuffed gingerbread house that makes crackly noises when I groom it (as I do all my stuffies). I think it's my favorite toy I got! Then Christmas morning, I opened up:

a rubber floppy frisbee
a giant pig ear
a Santa squeaker
and a stuffed reindeer with extra-long legs with squeakers in the hooves

Woo I had fun! PLUS! Mom took me on an EXTRA long walk out to the "grassy plains" in the area and I got to smell hog tracks and hide behind weeds taller than me! Mom says I'm in my element out there, but she still won't take me off the leash, since these "grassy plains" have streets that run next to them. But now that mom has this whole week off, we have been making these walks a daily thing and I LOVE them! The only thing I hate about them is the tick check when we get home. Mom makes me sit and she checks between my every toe. Blah!

This morning, I woke up mom by throwing up the last little pieces of the plastic Santa I ate on Christmas morning. Mom knew I wasn't acting right yesterday, so she chalked it up to the toy I wasn't supposed to actually eat, and of course, she was right. So now that that is out of my system, I feel much better! Just check out my new videos on my page (videos that mom recorded using her new Flip camera!). Yeah, she's having fun with her Christmas gifts, too. BOL!

Before I know it, a new year will be here. Then mom will be going back to work. Boo...

So I'm off to enjoy every minute I can with mom being home!

Until next time, go cuddle with your pup! And spend a little extra vacation time taking longer walks or playing fetch!

I don't know how mom keeps up with it all. First Halloween, then Thanksgiving, now Christmas!? What a rush! Did everyone have a nice Thanksgiving? I did...I guess...Mom was a little disappointed with me...

Someone new came over for dinner, mom's cousin. She was the tallest woman I've ever seen. And her eyes were so big. And she had poofy curly hair! Mom knows I'm weary of strangers anyway, but this lady, I was very cautious of her. Even after mom hugged her! I just didn't know. I kept growling at her, but always from a distance. Never up close. She even fed me turkey! From her hand! But I never let her get close....never let her pet me. Mom wasn't sure what to do. I never got aggressive, just growled a warning growl. Never showed teeth, nothing like that. Every time I growled at the strange lady, mom made me turn my attention to her...but still. Mom wasn't happy. So now she's trying different things to exercise out my fear/anxiety...

Things like walking me and my brofur separately. She tried doing it today, and you know what, she was ecstatic at how well I behaved on the walk. Even when a biker and fellow walker walked by! Mom led me off the road, made me sit until they passed, and I didn't jump or growl once! She said 27 did a wonderful job on his walk, too, but he's always been the good one. I personally think it's because he's too old to jump and his reflexes are too slow to react...BOL! But whatever...mom was happy with me and my one on one walk. Then tonight she tried walking us together and I was better than 27! Even when a dog barked at me! Mom whistled and I knew that meant to just keep on keepin' on. So I did. So now mom is going to try walking us separately in the mornings. That means she has to wake up way earlier than she's used to. Does she love us much?

Mom has also been doing something a little differently on our walks. Towards the end of them, she walks real slow and makes me and 27 walk real slow with her. We have to stay right by her side, not pull or walk in front. And you know what mom thinks is happening with that? I've been less skittish throughout the day. Mom thinks the two go hand in hand...like maybe since she's forcing us to take our time on our walks and not walk briskly, I can relax a bit more, making home life more relaxing. Does that make sense to anyone else but mom? BOL. She'd love some feedback I'm sure.

Well, I hope you all enjoy the new background. I got to have a little peek at the gift mom got me to open on Christmas Eve. I'm already so excited! I wonder what else I'll get! How excited are all of you!?

Until next time, go cuddle with your pup! And try going on THREE walks a day!

Walking with my Blinker On!

Hello everyone! Did you thank a veteran on Wednesday? I was sure to give my grampa a big ol' wet kiss when he came over. Without his help, who knows what the state of the country would be in!

On the same day of that big ol' wet kiss, it was mom's birthday! When she got home from work, they had yummy fish fillets and a glorious chocolate pie! Mom didn't give me any of it, but she did let me sniff all the stuff she pulled out of boxes, including a pro-grade tripod for her camera and shirts and a hoodie! Those smelled yummy! After that, I was sure to give HER plenty of big ol' kisses, too. DEEELISH!

So you know how I was complaining about it being so dark out now when mom gets home from work? I mean, that means no outside play time! Well, mom figured out a way to continue to give us the exercise we need. LED blinkers! Gah! Mom loves them. She twists them on and clips them right to our collar. They blink nice and bright and she feels so safe out on our walks now. She swears that because of those lights, cars have been able to avoid us completely, when they might not have otherwise. Mom hated trying to handle a flashlight and two dogs at the same time, and now she doesn't have to. Do you have blinkers on your collars? Mom highly, highly recommends them!

I guess the next holiday is Thanksgiving. That means FOOD! Look at all that yummy food mom added to my page. I'm drooling already...BOL! Hope you enjoy your time until then!

Until next time, go cuddle with your pup! And keep trying to adjust to the time change to make your pup more comfortable!
